Job Description

AutoZone is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to spearhead our payment processing and certification processes in the US and Mexico. As a Senior Engineer responsible for store technology modernization, you collaborate with and train a team of engineers in modifying and modernizing existing store payment configurations, as well as developing new ones to meet certification standards. This candidate will collaborate with other engineers, IT leadership, business stakeholders, and product owners to develop comprehensive technical strategies and facilitate the implementation of new store-side solutions.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with IT leadership, business stakeholders, and product owners to develop capability assessments and maturation plans for store payment systems.
• Collaborate with IT Directors and domain Architects to develop technology capability roadmaps to frame long-term IT strategies, analyzing AutoZone's store application landscape for critical deficiencies or gaps.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, helping them develop an understanding for the payment processing landscape and certification requirements.
• Diagnose and resolve technical problems, ensuring the smooth functioning of projects and systems within the store system landscape.
• Develop applications that match architecture standards, collaborating with Enterprise and Domain Architects.
• Serve as a trusted advisor for business and IT organizations, assisting with setting expectations, resource planning, estimating effort, or providing general understanding of the tendering processes, payment lifecycle and configuration standards for Lane7000 devices.
• Conduct code reviews to ensure code quality, adherence to standards, and identify potential issues.

Qualifications

Required Skills / Qualifications:
• 10+ years of experience in the IT industry with deep, hands-on development experience (retail experience preferred).
• Demonstratable experience in designing, implementing and supporting payment processing systems focused on retail, in person, Point of Sale systems.
• Experience with the certification of new PIN Pads in legacy applications.
• Demonstratable experience in building parallelizable, distributed custom C/C++ solutions in a graphical Linux environment.
• 5+ years of experience as a Senior Engineer and/or Technical Architect.
• Experience designing, developing, and deploying distributed, large-scale, highly available, robust software solutions, using service-based and/or event-based architectures.
• Proven real-world, production experience with the Qt Framework (C++).
• Deep/Expert experience with Linux, C/C++ (Qt), and GitLab.

• Able to efficiently summarize substantial amounts of information for business and IT audiences.
• Ability to research, assess, and compare technologies, platforms, and/or tools to determine their potential utilization within the store ecosystem.
• A self-starter with a natural inclination towards inquiry, requiring minimal information and spanning various technologies.
• A data-driven decision maker with the ability to make prompt decisions under uncertainty when necessary.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and analytical skills. Capable of effectively communicating complex technical concepts and designs to diverse audiences.
• Broad understanding of industry standards, application architecture patterns, methodologies, and principles.
