Job DescriptionThe Accounting Manager - Human Resources is a key member of the HR Finance team, which provides strategic financial guidance to the HR function at AutoZone. This role ensures financial controls are properly designed, effectively operating, and that financial risks are appropriately mitigated. The position is responsible for driving the business planning and financial reporting cycles through close collaboration with HR business partners, including executive leadership. As a trusted advisor, the Accounting Manager delivers actionable insights, supports strategic decision making, and advances HR's strategic objectives. This role also identifies and implements process improvements to enhance the accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of HR Finance processes, and provides ad hoc financial analyses in support of Finance and HR leadership.
ResponsibilitiesFinancial Planning & Analysis- Lead the strategic financial planning cycles, including periodic forecasting, quarterly latest estimates, annual operating budgets, and long-range planning, ensuring delivery within established deadlines
- Collaborate and communicate proactively with Finance Business Partners, HR leadership, and Accounting Managers to evaluate financial impacts and provide strategic insights
Accounting Close & Reporting- Manage and execute the monthly and quarterly accounting close process and the preparation of financial reporting packages
- Review and approve journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with US GAAP and Company accounting policies
Benefits Finance & Performance Management- Oversee the financial performance of enterprise benefits programs, including monthly actual-to-plan analysis, variance drivers, and actionable insights for leadership
- Develop reporting dashboards and KPIs to enhance visibility and accountability for benefit-related spend.
Business Partnering & Governance- Partner with the SAP and HR Governance teams to ensure HR Business Partners are trained on Accounts Payable, Procurement, and Reporting processes in alignment with internal controls and compliance expectations
- Provide financial guidance to HR leadership, including Actual vs. Plan analysis, Total Cost of Ownership modeling, and IRR calculations as required
- Administer the Approval Request System (ARS) for HR initiatives and ensure compliance with financial review requirements.
Team Leadership- Directly manage, mentor, and develop HR Finance team members, providing coaching, feedback, and growth opportunities to elevate team capability and performance.
Process Optimization- Identify, design, and implement process improvements aimed at increasing efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of HR Finance operations
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives across forecasting, reporting, and analysis frameworks.
Ad Hoc & Strategic Projects- Conduct ad hoc financial analyses, scenario modeling, and presentations in support of HR and enterprise strategic initiatives.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree (BA, BS) or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
- Minimum of five years of progressive work experience in Accounting and/or Finance
- CPA preferred
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and internal controls, with experience supporting financial planning, forecasting, and reporting processes
Technical Skills- Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency, including financial modeling and complex data analysis
- Experience with SAP, financial planning tools (e.g., Adaptive, Anaplan, Hyperion), and enterprise reporting platforms preferred
- Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to synthesize large data sets into meaningful insights
Leadership & Behavioral Skills- Strong initiative and a self-starter mentality, with the ability to work independently and anticipate business needs
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting critical deadlines
- Strong human relations and communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly, accurately, and tailored to the target audience
- Demonstrated ability to build strong partnerships across functions and influence stakeholders at all levels
- Proven ability to coach, develop, and lead team members in a fast-paced environment.
