Tasks and Responsibilities

Are you looking to kick-start your engineering career in a fast-paced logistics environment? As an Apprentice Maintenance Engineer, you’ll become an integral part of our skilled maintenance team, working at the heart of our operations.

You’ll gain hands-on experience alongside seasoned engineers, gaining hands-on experience and learning the ropes of maintaining our cutting-edge MHE automated sort system. Under the guidance of our Engineering Manager, you’ll assist with planned maintenance, reactive repairs, and system recovery, helping to ensure the smooth and efficient running of our Southern distribution centre.

This is more than just maintenance — you’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to process improvement projects focused on reducing operational costs, minimising waste, and improving system uptime.

Key Responsibilities

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Uphold company and departmental standards and policies, acting as a positive role model within the Maintenance team.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues across the business, including those not directly involved in engineering processes.

Maintenance & Process Support

  • Assist with maintaining both the electrical and mechanical components of the MHE, under the guidance of experienced engineers.
  • Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks in line with established schedules to meet all relevant health & safety, industry, and company standards.
  • Support maintenance engineers and liaise with Property Maintenance and Operations teams to address maintenance-related issues.
  • Contribute to the development of departmental procedures and maintenance methods, including continuous improvement initiatives.

· Strong IT skills

· Effective communication skills both written and verbal with the ability to influence when required

· A desire to succeed

· Analytical thinking with the ability to “think outside the box”

Qualifications:

BTEC or CG-NVQ L1 minimum

English & Maths – Grade C or above
