Our company is currently seeking a Heavy Equipment Field Diesel Mechanic to support projects in the Columbia/Lexington areas. The Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic will handle preventive maintenance and general repairs to fleet of construction heavy equipment. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair heavy construction equipment in field and jobsite environments. Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled service on construction equipment and support vehicles. Inspect equipment to identify mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and operational deficiencies. Repair and replace engines, hydraulic systems, pumps, motors, cylinders, hoses, drivetrains, undercarriages, braking systems, and other components. Diagnose equipment issues using manufacturer diagnostic software, electronic testing equipment, and troubleshooting tools. Perform welding, cutting, fabrication, and minor structural repairs as needed. Respond to service calls and equipment breakdowns in the field. Maintain service records, repair reports, inspection forms, and maintenance documentation. Coordinate repair priorities with Superintendents, Foremen, Equipment Managers, and Operations personnel. Conduct equipment inspections to ensure compliance with company safety standards and manufacturer recommendations. Perform equipment setup, assembly, and commissioning as required. Order and track parts required for equipment repairs and maintenance. Maintain service trucks, tools, and inventory in a clean and organized condition. Ensure all repairs are completed safely and in accordance with company policies and industry standards. Assist with equipment training and operational best practices when needed. Participate in safety meetings, training programs, and equipment management initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience repairing and maintaining heavy construction equipment. Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, drivetrain components, and equipment diagnostics. Ability to read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, and technical documentation. Experience performing field repairs in construction environments. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to work independently and prioritize workload effectively. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Reliable attendance and dependability. · Achieve and consistently demonstrate proficiency in all required competencies within the first 1-3 years in the role. · Maintain safety performance standards, including no preventable accidents, injuries, or equipment damage. Preferred Qualifications Technical school certification in diesel technology, heavy equipment repair, or related field. Experience maintaining site development and earthmoving equipment. Commercial Driver's License (CDL). OEM certifications from Caterpillar, John Deere, Komatsu, Volvo, Case, Hitachi, or similar manufacturers. Welding and fabrication experience. DOT inspection certification. Experience with electronic diagnostic software and telematics systems. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds. Ability to climb on, under, and around heavy equipment. Ability to frequently bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work in confined spaces. Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and welding equipment. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Working Conditions Outdoor construction environment and field service settings. Exposure to heavy equipment, moving machinery, noise, vibration, dust, mud, grease, fuel, and hydraulic fluids. Work may be performed in hot, cold, wet, humid, and dusty conditions. Occasional overtime, weekend work, and emergency repair calls may be required. Travel between multiple project sites may be required.
