POSITION SUMMARY Under the direction of the Maintenance Group, the Maintenance Technician provides technical direction to Maintenance Technicians I and II and performs maintenance (preventive, corrective, predictive, and/or calibrations), repair, and troubleshooting of all manufacturing, utility, and/or facility equipment to ensure its efficient operation.
II. CATEGORY Non-Exempt III. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION 1. Coordinates and/or executes preventive, corrective, predictive, and/or calibration maintenance activities according to the established plan and assigns these tasks to Technicians I and II, ensuring that said maintenance is performed on manufacturing, utilities, and/or facilities equipment on time. 2. Documents, reconciles, and/or reviews the technical documentation that supports the maintenance tasks performed and that must be documented in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) according to established standard procedures. 3. Provides technical assistance and trains Technicians I and II in the various technologies to optimize the operation and maintenance of the equipment. 4. Provides support in the introduction of new products through technical support for the applicable processes and technologies. 5. Perform troubleshooting on production equipment/systems, utilities, and/or facilities in areas of expertise such as: a. Instrumentation and Electronics b. Industrial Mechanics c. Electricity, Pneumatics, and Hydraulics d. PLCs and Computers e. Servo Motors and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
6. Operates forklifts, hand trucks, pallet jacks, etc., electric/manual forks, and other equipment to transport materials used in batch manufacturing and/or handling equipment/parts used for maintenance and/or troubleshooting. 7. Assists Manufacturing Technicians/Operators in performing setups and/or changeovers of equipment/processes as required in compliance with written procedures and respective training. 8. Generates spare parts lists for production, utility, and/or facility equipment/systems. Recommends quantities and maximum and minimum levels. 9. Supports the Event Investigation process by providing technical knowledge to identify root causes, as applicable. 10. Repairs and modifies mechanical parts of equipment/systems when the situation requires it, in compliance with applicable procedures.
11. Performs the duties and work of Maintenance Technician I and II when required. 12. Designs and manufactures mechanical parts and electrical, electronic, and pneumatic interface systems between machinery when required, in compliance with applicable procedures. 13. Designs and manufactures mechanical parts and electrical, electronic, and pneumatic interface systems between machinery when required, in compliance with applicable procedures. 14. Reads and interprets electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic drawings to assist in the repair and/or modification of systems and equipment. 15. Develops specifications for equipment, parts, and services provided by external suppliers and contractors. Coordinates work with external contractors and evaluates the services provided. 16. Provides technical assistance and trains required personnel on new installations and modifications of equipment and systems in designated areas. 17. Supports the installation of manufacturing and/or utility equipment, as assigned. Supports the selection of new equipment and systems to improve the operation of existing systems.
18. Represents the technical group in electrical and mechanical installations performed by external contractors. 19. Assists in the installation of electrical appliances, control equipment, and wiring for alarm, lighting, and electrical distribution systems at the plant under the supervision of an Engineer or certified personnel according to the scope of work and risks. 20. Participates in internal facility inspections, occupational health and safety, and/or GMP inspections as required. 21. Participates in the maintenance technician group's shift change process, including generating and distributing the daily maintenance activity report. 22. Ensures compliance with safety procedures (LOTO, confined spaces, vertical fall prevention, electrical safety, etc.) and provides assistance and direction to Maintenance Technicians I and II and/or external contractors with this requirement.
23. Intermediate/general skills in computer systems such as Microsoft Office, process control systems, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES, e-BR), Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), and/or Computerized Calibration Management Systems (CCMS).
24. Maintains current qualifications in Media Fills, Aseptic Area Qualification, Forklift Operator, Train the Trainer, among others. 25. Collects and analyzes downtime data and directly supports action plans with recommendations and execution. 26. Supports and/or executes Vibration Analysis, Infrared Thermography, and Ultrasound, interprets trend reports, and translates results into action plans. 27. Directly supports the Event Investigation process, diagnoses, identifies, and implements corrective actions for optimal equipment operation based on root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective and preventive action (CAPA) systems.
IV. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Minimum of an associate's degree or technical certification in a technical field such as electricity, industrial mechanics, refrigeration, or electronics. A bachelor's degree in technologies such as electricity, industrial mechanics, electronics, instrumentation, or a combination thereof is highly preferred. Technical experience in parenteral pharmaceutical operations, sterile plants, aseptic complexes, and/or isolator systems is highly preferred. Must have at least five (5) years of experience relevant to the job description and requirements. V. LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND TRAINING A degree in electricity, refrigeration, or electronics is recommended. VI. BASIC SKILLS 1. Connect 2. Grow 3. Shape 4. VII. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS This position requires the incumbent to be able to read and interpret literature and documents written in Spanish and English. The incumbent must wear personal protective equipment and work in controlled environments, requiring dress and behavior skills that will be graded according to standard procedures. The incumbent must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook) and access to video conferencing such as Teams. VIII. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Instructs, coordinates, and clarifies to others the details of the task. The scope of this position does not include supervision of technical staff. IX. REQUIRED SUPERVISION
1. The Maintenance Technician III will report directly to a position equivalent to a Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Manager. Will receive direction from the Maintenance Engineer, Process Engineer, and/or Automation Engineer. 2. Takes action as established in approved policies and accepted standard practices. 3. Uses ingenuity to take action in the absence of prior instructions to develop new or improved work methods. 4. Resolves problems of an unusual nature, with available supervision. X. EXPOSURE TO INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACTS Internal Contacts: The employee has contact with personnel from the same department, area, or other support and service departments. External Contacts: The employee may have contact with suppliers, contractors, and personnel from other J& J companies. XI. MENTAL REQUIREMENTS 1. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. XV. USE OF MACHINERY AND TOOLS 1. The Maintenance Technician III will handle hand, electric, and pneumatic tools, machine shop machines, calibration standards, reference instruments, handhelds, manual/electric forklifts, smart glasses, and other equipment to transport materials. 2. Use specialized tools to repair and modify mechanical parts of machinery when the situation requires it. XVI.
