Vitalant is one of the nation's largest nonprofit blood and biotherapies healthcare organizations, providing hospitals and patients across the U.S. with a safe blood supply, specialized laboratory services, transfusion medicine expertise, and world-renowned research. We are committed to advancing patient care through innovative clinical research, and we are seeking a dedicated RN II Research to join our Hemophilia Center of Western PA team.
What to Expect:
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8: 00 AM - 4: 30 PM
  • Location: In-person, Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh (Free on-site parking!)
As an RN II Research, you will:
  • Coordinate and support clinical research studies, including patient recruitment, scheduling research visits, obtaining informed consent, and maintaining confidential subject files.
  • Conduct clinical assessments, brief patient evaluations, and provide licensed nursing procedures as appropriate.
  • Perform phlebotomy, specimen collection, processing, labeling, shipping, and storage per study protocol and OSHA standards.
  • Collaborate with sponsoring agencies, universities, NIH, pharmaceutical companies, and government organizations on study coordination.
  • Oversee documentation requirements, including case report forms (CRFs), electronic diaries, and study procedure manuals.
  • Provide coverage for active research studies, ensuring compliance with study protocols and regulatory guidelines.
  • Attend local and national research meetings, including the NHF Annual Meeting, and present updates on clinical studies.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide training, guidance, and competency assessments for junior research nursing staff.

Requirements

What We're Looking For:

  • Education: BSN preferred.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Active RN license in the state of Pennsylvania required.
  • Experience:
    • At least 2 years of clinical research experience.
    • 1-2 years of hands-on nursing experience, including phlebotomy/venipuncture.
  • Skills:
    • Strong clinical assessment skills and knowledge of medical terminology.
    • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and database management.
    • Excellent documentation, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work both independently and as part of a team.
