Description:

The Shop Superintendent is responsible handling repair calls and dispatching mechanics and technicians for the repair and maintenance of fleet and heavy mobile equipment. The Altoona area is a critical maintenance area for NESL and will support Construction, Blacktop Paving, Ready Mix Delivery, and our Triaxle Fleet.

Shop Superintendent - What Will You Do?

  • Leadership: Oversees and coordinates mechanics and technicians in the repair and maintenance of fleet equipment.
  • Safety: Adheres to company vehicle safety policies and DOT regulations; is responsible for conducting job hazard analyses and the daily job safety briefing.
  • Dispatching/Scheduling: Schedules technicians in the routine maintenance of fleet equipment; prioritizes mechanic time and dispatches mechanics to conduct fleet repair based on repair urgency.
  • Customer Service: Works closely with internal customers to reduce downtime and maximizing uptime of fleet equipment.
  • Performs equipment repair diagnostics; refers to work order history; maintains total cost of the life cycle of equipment based on repair history.
  • Encourages parts team to find the best value for parts based on equipment repair history and life cycle.
  • Engages subcontractors as needed; negotiates subcontractor pricing and reviews bids when necessary.
  • Ensures that vehicles are regularly maintained and that unscheduled maintenance issues are promptly addressed.
  • Implements vehicle maintenance programs and safety policies.
  • Schedules vehicle cleaning and maintenance and state inspections.
  • Trains staff and monitors their performance.

Requirements - Who Are We Looking For?

  • High School diploma or equivalent required. Dealership level training on electrical diagnostics and/or technical school degrees preferred.
  • Association of Equipment Management Professionals (AEMP) Jr. Certified Equipment Manager certification is preferred.
  • 5+ years’ general experience in fleet equipment maintenance.
  • Proven leadership ability with a minimum of 1-2 years' managerial experience.
  • Diesel repair experience preferred.
  • Caterpillar Engine Diagnostic Tools experience preferred.
  • Advanced computer and keypad skills required.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office Suite skills, particularly Word and Excel required.
  • JDE software experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal.
  • Ability to remain calm in fast-paced, stressful environment.
  • Ability to read and interrupt hydraulic and electrical schematics.
  • Valid & compliant with NESL driving standards required, CDL License preferred.
