Michael Baker International is seeking an Environmental Specialist I to join the team in our Philadelphia PA office. Under limited supervision, the successful candidate will be responsible for moderately complex environmental studies, including calculations, plans, research, and reports.

This role requires onsite work (70%) and field work (30%) M-F in the Philadelphia PA area

What You'll Do:
  • Determine data collection methods to obtain project-required information
  • Perform subsurface investigations in support of geologic and evaluation efforts, including HAS and direct push boring, test pit inspection, ground water collection, and performing data collection activities as required
  • Assist in the planning of subsurface explorations and laboratory testing investigations
  • Perform detailed field reconnaissance and geological research to evaluate site-specific conditions and risks
  • Compile and manage geotechnical data and prepare typed boring logs and cross sections
  • Assist in the preparation of geotechnical and geologic study reports and geologic hazard assessments; support the development of design and construction drawings and specifications
  • Provide environmentally focused observations during the construction phase of various projects
  • Collaborate effectively within a team, working closely with project managers, technical experts, and colleagues to complete field tasks and project deliverables
  • Perform office and fieldwork safely, regardless of season or weather conditions, using various field equipment; must be able to list and move approximately 30 pounds without assistance; operate company vehicles
  • Engage in diverse field sampling programs, including collecting, handling, and shipping samples of various environmental media (e.g., groundwater, soil, sediment, soil vapor, indoor air) in accordance with State and Federal regulations
  • Conduct site investigations, such as Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, and assist in preparing follow-up reports
  • Coordinate and oversee subcontractors (e.g., laboratories, drillers, surveyors)
  • Accurately document site conditions, observations, and activities using field forms, notebooks, and daily reports and communicate these verbally
  • Uphold quality control standards and procedures to ensure accurate and precise measurements, analysis, and reporting
  • Aid in preparing environmental monitoring and technical reports, including compiling, interpreting (with experience) and presenting field and analytical data
  • Collect and synthesize data derived from soil, water, or waste samples as well as pollution emission measurements, atmospheric monitoring, meteorological and mineralogical information
  • Plan and develop moderately complex research models
  • Work simultaneously on multiple tasks of varying size and complexity
  • Identify sources of pollution or environmental contaminants to determine their effects
  • Construct moderately complex environmental tables using spreadsheets, databases, and word processing software
  • Prepare moderately complex graphs and charts from synthesized data
  • Develop moderately complex environmental reports to summarize existing environmental conditions, develop theories, and recommend solutions
  • Plan and conduct audits of facilities, sites, properties, etc. to assess environmental conditions and identify areas requiring additional environmental investigations
  • Interact with clients regarding project issues; plan, hold, and attend client meetings
  • Assist Project Manager with defining the scope of work and man-hour requirements
  • Assist Project Manager with proposal production
  • Occasional to moderate travel to project sites may be required

What You Need to Succeed:
  • Minimum qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in Geoscience, Geology, Engineering Geology, Geological Engineering, Geophysics, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or other science related degree
    • 5-7 years of related experience
    • Phase I and Phase II experience
    • Possess a valid driver's license
    • Availability for field work
    • OSHA HAZWOPER 40hr trained
  • Preferred qualifications
    • LSRP certification
    • G.I.T./P.G. certification or actively pursuing one

Compensation:

The approximate compensation range for this position $82, 605 - $119, 275 per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
