What We're Looking For:

Michael Baker International is seeking an Environmental Associate for our Moon Township, PA office. The primary focus of this role will be in support of site investigation/restoration projects under various federal and state regulatory programs and environmental compliance projects including hazardous material inventories, spill contingency planning and stormwater compliance assessments, with an emphasis on conducting environmental assessments and remediation studies, plans and field work. Candidates should be able to demonstrate excellent communication, writing, presentation, interpersonal, attention to detail and time management skills.

What You'll Do:

You will assist with day-to-day tasks/projects under the direction of project managers and senior staff members and work effectively with project teams, clients and other stakeholders. You will work in an office or field environment, as needed.

Typical tasks may include, but not be limited to:
  • Conducting Phase I environmental site assessments.
  • Conducting field work in support of projects to include soil and water sampling, monitoring well installation and other general field tasks individually and working with a field team.
  • Providing accurate documentation of field tasks performed in accordance with established procedures and preparing field sketches and site maps.
  • Calibrating, operating and maintaining field instruments and equipment.
  • Constructing environmental data tables using spreadsheet, database and word processing software and preparing graphs and charts from synthesized data.
  • Assisting in development of environmental reports to summarize field procedures, data collected and existing environmental conditions.
  • Communicating and interacting with other staff and subcontractors.
  • Managing personal workload and coordinating schedule with supervising manager and department manager as appropriate.
  • Under the supervision of a senior staff member, interacting with clients regarding project issues such as interviewing for site assessments.
  • Moderate travel to project sites will be required at various times of the year.
  • Working simultaneously on multiple tasks of varying size and complexity.
  • Attending CPR, First Aid and hazardous operations training as required, observing all safety policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervising manager and/or department manager.


What You Need to Succeed:
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Geology, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline required.
  • 0 to 2 years of professional experience.
  • OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour training or ability to obtain within first 6 months of employment.
  • Proficient critical thinking, problem solving and effective communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of environmental assessment, remediation and compliance principles, analysis methodologies, and regulatory guidelines a plus.
  • Must have a valid PA Driver's License or ability to secure.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical duties for field work activities include the ability to:
  • Walk over uneven terrain for extended portions of the workday in all weather conditions.
  • Work in industrial environments.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Wear specific PPE including hard hat, hearing and eye protection, etc.
  • This position requires participation in a health monitoring program, the use of appropriate PPE and hazard mitigation planning.

Compensation:

The approximate compensation range for this position is $57, 910 - $79, 047 per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
