Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine Research & Development is recruiting for a Senior Scientist, Retina Biomarkers within the Specialty Ophthalmology Biomarker Team located in Spring House PA.

The Biomarker Team is composed of experts in Retinal Diseases and supports programs across the value chain in the Specialty Ophthalmology therapeutic area, both for biomarker discovery and development.

The successful candidate:

• will be effective in the independent execution and troubleshooting of lab experiments for human-based in vitro stimulations, models and new assay development for disease understanding, target identification, and disease exploration.

• will serve as a Biomarker Program Lead for preclinical or clinical programs in the development and implementation of high caliber translational biomarker packages.

• will operate in a highly collaborative environment interacting with multiple internal and external stakeholders contributing high quality and timely deliverables as assessed by stakeholders such as the project team, the clinical trial team, and Biomarker leadership.

• will ensure delivery of completed data and analyses in support of key program milestones and drive technical excellence in translational science and biomarker research and contribute to the group's strategic direction.

• will follow best practices for Data Integrity complying with organization and company standard operating procedures in timely fashion, such as training and project time accounting.

Responsibilities are as follows:

• Design and execute biomarker plans integrating both disease and pathway approaches to support portfolio programs

• Contribute to the strategies on molecular understanding of human diseases, patient stratification and biomarker-based endpoint translational strategies
  • Take initiative to identify, pilot and internalize emerging technical approaches that may drive increased value for portfolio execution
• Design, execute, and troubleshoot molecular and/or cellular assays for patient stratification in clinical trials for Specialty Ophthalmology

• Partnership with external assay development/assay providers as needed to support development and execution of assays in support of Specialty Ophthalmology assets

• Support new platform development for Specialty Ophthalmology Biomarkers

• Work closely with other lab-based personnel within Biomarkers and Discovery to ensure optimal laboratory environment (collaboration, culture, safety, etc.)

• Expected time in the lab: 80%

An internal pre-identified candidate for consideration has been identified. However, all applications will be considered.• Ph.D. with 1-2 years of relevant experience, preferably in pharmaceutical or biotechnology sectors or a MS with 7 years of experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology sectors is required

• Creative, talented problem-solving

• Experience with breadth of lab skills (cell biology, immune-based assays, gene expression) is required

• Experience in Biomarkers preferred

• Excellent communication skills required

• Dynamic entrepreneurial mindset

• This role will be based in either Spring House, PA and may require up to 5% travel.

The base pay range for this position is $104, 000 to $166, 750.

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/ performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.
