Within Janssen Research & Development, the Biotherapeutics Development & Supply (BTDS) organization is responsible for the development, clinical supply, marketed product support, and life cycle management of Biotherapeutics. Within BTDS, the Analytical Development (AD) group supports method development and validation, as well as product development, release, and stability analytics via automated workflows.

The Laboratory Automation & Robotics team is recruiting for a Sr. Associate Automation Scientist to collaborate in migrating analytical assays from manual processes to fully automated end to end workflows. In this role you will collaborate with Assay Automation, Integration Automation, Assay Development SMEs, and end-users to increase sample testing throughput and/or reduce hands-on time, time-to-result, repetitive strain, and assay variability. The primary scientific area of focus will be in cell and gene therapies, implementing automated analytical workflows such as antigen binding, molecular, cell-based, and chromatography.
Primary Responsibilities:

Depending on your skills and interest the responsibilities will include:
  • Collaborate within a cross-functional team to design, develop, and deploy end-to-end automation solutions for analytical workflows
  • Collaborate in automated workflow design, and execute experimentation for device/instrument selection or refinement/improvement of laboratory processes
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize automated scripts to expand HT sample testing using automated liquid handling and end-to-end automation platforms
  • Optimize existing automated solutions to provide new functionality
  • Support and troubleshoot automated solutions for high-throughput sample testing, including technical investigation support
  • Collaborate with AD Operations and IT to automate data flow within laboratory automation solutions (LIMS/metadata, CQA, results, etc.)
  • Knowledge transfer and technical cross-training
  • Ensure data integrity through accurate and timely data capture/entry into appropriate electronic systems
Required:
  • a M.S./B.S. in Biology, Engineering, Biochemistry, Computer Science or equivalent is required
  • a M.S. with 3 or more years, or B.S. with 5 or more years of laboratory automation experience is required
  • Experience with operating, maintaining, and optimizing in one of the following lab automation areas: 1.) Integrated robotic systems using dynamic scheduling software, such as Biosero Green Button Go, HighRes Biosolutions Cellario, or Thermo Scientific Momentum, OR 2.) Liquid handling platforms, such as Tecan, Hamilton, Beckman Coulter, Agilent is required
  • Experience implementing automated laboratory workflows and high-throughput methods within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry; this may include instrument configuration, liquid handling, or method programming is required
  • Ability to identify/understand sophisticated customer needs and help craft automated solutions for laboratory workflows is required
  • Experience with biological or biochemical assays; migration of bench techniques to automated systems is required
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills (both written and oral), with the ability to closely collaborate with scientists, vendors, and external teams is required
Preferred:
  • Experience with various programming languages, such as #, Python, Visual Basic, C is preferred
  • Experience with automation software packages such as Hamilton Venus, Tecan Fluent Control, Biosero Green Button Go, or Thermo Momentum is preferred
  • Experience with analytical method development is preferred
  • Experience with automated sample management systems and software, such as Azenta, Askion, or Hamilton is preferred
  • Experience working with instrument APIs is preferred
  • Experience working with remote teams is preferred
