Description:
Position Title: Safety Inspector
Location: Bailey Mine
Position Summary
This position examines areas of the mine or surface to maintain a safe work environment. Communicates with management representatives to advise of hazard and violation causing conditions. Participates in the investigation and review of all accidents. Maintains an effective safety program and rapport with safety representatives from government agencies and other organizations.
Target Responsibilities
- Conduct mine inspections and accident investigations. Provides recommendations to prevent unsafe or hazardous conditions from recurring. Maintains a violation log and report file.
- Conduct dust sampling and noise level readings. Maintains appropriate results data.
- Maintain a working knowledge of safety codes, laws and regulations.
- Provide first aid and ambulance service for injured mine personnel.
- Inspect first aid stations, supplies, and equipment. Restocks as necessary.
- Suggest proper personal protective devices for the employees.
- Maintain, inspect, and retain records of all required Self Rescuers utilized at the mine.
- Conduct MSHA required dust and noise surveys.
- Work with the Dust Department to aid with all required dust and noise sampling.
- Monitor and update training files.
- Hazard train visitors, contractors, vendors, or other company personnel before they enter the mine.
- Travel with Federal and State Mine Inspectors throughout the mine, documenting findings and reporting them to Mine Management. Record citations issued and date due for abatement.
Minimum Requirements
- Must possess related experience in mine operations, and or related safety experience.
- Requires thorough knowledge of coal mining operations, including safety, production, and maintenance.
- Must possess or be willing to obtain MSHA Instructor, Underground Mine Foreman / Fireboss, First Aid and Dust and Noise Sampling certifications.
- Must possess effective verbal communication skills.
- Must possess moderate computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• High School Diploma with specialized training or equivalent.
- 5-7 years of underground mining experience or related industrial safety.
