Job Summary

The Equipment, Technology and Maintenance (ETM) group is seeking a motivated Summer Engineering Intern to support a wide range of production areas across our campus. ETM plays a key role in maintaining, improving, and supporting equipment used in material growth, optical fabrication, thin-film coatings, and quality assurance.

This internship is ideal for a student who enjoys hands-on engineering work and wants exposure to a broad cross-section of technologies, processes, and production equipment. We will mentor and support you every step of the way.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assemble and test optical measuring systems.
  • Assemble. wire and test electrical control panels.
  • Support general engineering, maintenance and equipment improvement initiatives as assigned.
  • Enter equipment and maintenance data into computerized maintenance management software (CMMS).

Education & Experience
  • Completion of a minimum of two years towards a bachelor's degree in Mechanical engineering, Electrical engineering, or an equivalent discipline.
  • Familiarity with wiring diagrams, schematics, or lab equipment.
  • Experience with basic hand tools, test equipment, or assembly work.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Lt. or Autodesk Inventor is a plus. of AutoCAD.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Team-oriented but able to work independently when needed.
  • Adaptable and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and time management.
  • Internship Duration: 10 - 14 weeks.

Working Conditions
  • This role will be based on-site in Saxonburg PA.
  • Working environments include clean rooms, maintenance workshops and production areas.
  • PPE, including safety glasses, lab coats and gloves are required in some areas. PPE and training will be provided.

Physical Requirements
  • Sitting for extended periods while working on a computer or at a bench.
  • Find motor skills for working with small components, wiring, and precision assemblies.
  • Occasional lifting of objects or materials up to 50 pounds for administrative tasks.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
