The School Custodian plays a vital role in that mission by maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly school environment. This position supports daily operations through routine cleaning, building support, and safety practices that ensure our students, staff, and families feel welcomed and cared for every day.
What You’ll Bring
- The ability to follow written and verbal instructions with attention to detail
- Basic knowledge of custodial equipment, cleaning methods, and safety practices
- Understanding of OSHA guidelines and proper chemical handling
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Reliability, flexibility, and a team-oriented mindset
- Prior custodial experience, preferably in a school or institutional setting (preferred)
What You’ll Have
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to pass all required Pennsylvania clearances (Act 34, Act 151, Act 114)
- Valid driver’s license
- Physical capability to:
- Lift up to 50 pounds
- Stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and climb stairs for extended periods
- Operate custodial equipment such as vacuums and floor machines
- Work indoors and outdoors with exposure to cleaning chemicals, noise, and varying temperatures
A Typical Day May Include
- Cleaning and disinfecting classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, and common areas
- Sweeping, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and sanitizing surfaces and fixtures
- Refilling restroom and sanitation supplies
- Cleaning cafeteria and Adaptive Kitchen floors, tables, and waste stations
- Removing trash and recycling throughout the building
- Locking and unlocking assigned areas according to schedule
- Reporting safety hazards or facility maintenance concerns
- Setting up and breaking down furniture and equipment for school events
- Assisting with deliveries, storage organization, and supply management
- Supporting seasonal tasks such as snow and ice removal at entrances and sidewalks
- Participating in required custodial, safety, and in-service trainings
- Assisting with summer cleaning and school-year preparation as needed
