Description:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops lesson plans and units that address the PA Academic Standards to ensure students with disabilities access the general education curriculum.
  • Instructs students in whole groups, small groups and individual sessions using appropriate adaptations and modifications to address students’ IEP goals and learning objectives.
  • Monitors student progress, using a variety of assessment techniques (e.g., diagnostic, formative, benchmark, summative tools) to monitor student achievement and inform instructional planning.
  • Implements classroom level and individual behavior management programs, using evidence-based practices, to reduce non-academic barriers to student achievement.
  • Maintains records (e.g., attendance, behavior, progress monitoring and academic performance) using formal and informal information systems, in order to collect accurate student information.
  • Communicates with parents/guardians and district personnel through a variety of formal and informal means (e.g., report cards, conferences, newsletters, progress reports, home school logs) to facilitate partnerships focusing on student achievement.
  • Develops Individualized Education Programs (IEP) and Reevaluation Reports, based on student performance data, which comply with federal and state regulations and local guidelines, and participates in IEP team meetings.
  • Manages and works collaboratively with classroom personnel (e.g., paraprofessionals, Personal Care Assistants), using clear and direct communication techniques, supporting students’ academic, social, emotional and behavioral goals.
  • Collaborates with related service providers and other staff, using a consultative model, ensuring that relevant information affecting students’ special education programs are shared and acted upon.
  • Promotes students’ products through physical and/or digital representation (e.g., bulletin boards, displays, student projects), showcasing learners’ production and enhancing the school’s climate.
  • Complete other duties (e.g., bus duty, lunch duty) as assigned by building administrators or special education supervisors.

Qualifications:

  1. PA certification in Special Education PK-12 required.
  2. Ability to utilize email, Microsoft Office programs, and student information systems (i.e. IEP Writer, Skyward) to manage communication, information and records.
  3. Ability to follow all AIU policies and guidelines, as well as building - level procedures, maintaining a professional demeanor consistent with the Pennsylvania Professional Code of Conduct.

Additional Requirements:

  1. Current Act 114, Act 34, Act 151 and NSOR Clearances required prior to an offer (must be dated within 1 year of hire date).
  2. School Personnel Health Record (Form H511.340) must be completed and received by Human Resources prior to hire date.
