Position Summary The Quality Control Analyst is an individual-contributor risk professional who executes HMA Mortgage's loan-level quality control reviews across the post-closing, pre-funding, and servicing QC framework in conformance with Fannie Mae Selling Guide (B8-1), Freddie Mac Single-Family Seller/Servicer Guide (Chapter 3402), and HUD Handbook 4000.1. Reporting to the Quality Control Manager, the Analyst performs "audit-the-auditor" reviews of the third-party QC vendor's work, validates and documents loan defects, and coordinates with origination, processing, and underwriting staff to drive defect cure and file correction. This role supports the integrity of HMA's loan quality data and agency QC compliance. Key Responsibilities Loan-Level QC Review & Defect Validation • Perform audit-the-auditor reviews of the third-party QC vendor's loan file findings, confirming the accuracy, completeness, and severity of each identified defect.• Conduct loan-level reviews of credit, income, asset, collateral, and compliance documentation against Fannie Mae B8-1, Freddie Mac Chapter 3402, and HUD 4000.1 requirements. • Document defects clearly with supporting evidence and appropriate severity classification; maintain a complete, accurate defect log with full audit trail.• Reconcile AUS findings (DU, LP, TOTAL Scorecard) against file documentation and the loan origination system for consistency. Defect Remediation & Coordination • Engage origination, processing, and underwriting staff to obtain missing documentation, clarify findings, and drive timely defect cure and file correction.• Track outstanding defect items through resolution and escalate unresolved, aging, or recurring defects to the QC Manager.• Support the corrective action plan (CAP) process by gathering evidence, documenting root cause inputs, and verifying cures at the loan level. Data, Trending & Reporting Support • Enter and maintain defect data in Excel workbooks; assist in building pivot tables and trend summaries by category, product, channel, underwriter, and severity.• Support preparation of the Monthly QC Report and Quarterly QC Trend Report by ensuring underlying loan-level data is accurate and validated.• Flag statistically notable or repeating defect patterns to the QC Manager for further analysis. Required Qualifications • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, or a related field; equivalent mortgage experience considered.• Minimum 2-4 years of residential mortgage experience, with exposure to underwriting, processing, or quality control.• Working knowledge of conventional and government (FHA/VA/USDA) loan documentation and requirements.• Familiarity with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and HUD (4000.1) loan review standards, or demonstrated ability to learn them quickly.• Working knowledge of TRID, RESPA, ECOA, and HMDA.• Experience with Encompass LOS and agency AUS systems (DU, LP, TOTAL Scorecard).• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data entry, filtering, and basic pivot tables.• Strong attention to detail, analytical rigor, and clear written communication. Preferred Qualifications • Prior dedicated mortgage QC or audit experience.• Exposure to third-party QC vendor findings and audit-the-auditor review.• Familiarity with defect trending and QC reporting.
