Your Job

Phillips Medisize are seeking a Principal Level Automation engineer to provide technical expertise and leadership in automated medical device assembly and packaging. Work with Phillips-Medisize manufacturing facilities and other shared resources to develop novel automation solutions to provide comparative advantage for the organization. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve processes and standards throughout Phillips-Medisize organization.

What You Will Do
  • Develop automation proposals using internal and external resources, evaluating size of opportunity, technical requirements, cost constraints, and timing.
  • Evaluate proposals from global automation vendors for technical feasibility,
  • Develop and establish cost estimates, project options, and design alternatives.
  • Support programs regionally and globally in coordination with the Shared Engineering Resources Automation and Manufacturing Strategy Development teams.
  • Support and occasionally lead Automation Community of Practice initiatives and/or continuous improvement activitie s.
  • Author automation specification and qualification documentation (URS, FAT test cases, SAT test cases, etc.).
  • Participate in and lead equipment design reviews and pFMEA development activities.
  • Provide meaningful and insightful design review feedback to equipment suppliers.
  • Extended travel to other facilities may be required to support business needs.
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks preferred) and MS Office applications.
  • Medical device manufacturing experience required in contract manufacturing environment.
  • Root cause analysis to identify and correct issues with automated equipment.


Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or technical field (or equivalent mix of education and experience).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in automated assembly and packaging of medical devices.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly with customer interactions.
  • GAMP 5 validation and documentation experience.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with management of complex manufacturing projects involving high-cost capex


What Will Put You Ahead

  • Strong DFM/DFA and automated assembly and packaging equipment design knowledge.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Machine design capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and in team setting with minimal direct supervision.
  • Some knowledge of injection molding and materials.
  • Experience with automated assembly and packaging processes (robotics, ultrasonic and laser welding, pad printing, laser marking, material transfer, cartoning, blister packaging, etc.)
  • Ability to travel throughout Europe to customer, supplier, and Phillips-Medisize facilities.
