Description:

Position Title: Truck Driver

Reports to: Traffic Coordinator

Department: Traffic

Hours per shift: 10-hour shifts with frequent overtime.

Wage: $21.92-$22.85, Level 3-4, DOE


Position Purpose: Operate a truck and trailer to transfer logs & lumber from various destinations, including Roseburg, Glendale and Springfield. Truck drivers interact with Shipping Coordinators, office staff, other truck drivers, mechanics, and forklift operators to ensure efficient operation of truck and delivery.


Essential Functions*

These duties are designated as ADA Essential Functions and must be performed in this job.

Perform daily pre/post operation inspections of truck and trailer. Reports any maintenance/safety issues daily.

Ensure repairs and maintenance are performed on the truck and trailer in a timely manner by scheduling maintenance

Performs light maintenance on the truck/trailers as needed.

Stages truck for loading and assists forklift operator during loading and unloading of lumber by placing or removing dunnage, as necessary.

Secures load with straps according to DOT requirements.

Transports logs and lumber on 40’/22’ combination trailers over public roadways.

Required to unload trailers with forklift when forklift operator is not available.

Non-Essential Functions

These duties are secondary in nature and are not classified as ADA essential.

Transport other machinery/freight as needed. Additional duties as assigned.

Wash/clean truck/trailers.



Working Environment: (1) Inside 100%, average temperature 70 degrees F (2) Outside 0; extreme low temperature 10 degrees F, extreme high temperature 105 degrees F. Noise or vibration: Machine noise to include machine being operated as well as other machines close by including Forklifts. Hazards: See Job Hazard Analysis. (3) Atmospheric conditions: Fumes: Wood, Dust: Limited, Mist: Water, Odors: Wood particle, Gasses: None, Poor Ventilation: None Work is outdoors; subject to temperature extremes and adverse weather conditions including rain, wind, and snow. Driving in yard with limited space and heavy traffic.


Personal Protective Equipment Required: (1) Eye Protection. (2) Hearing Protection. (3) Rubber or Leather based gloves when handling dry veneer. (4) Approved Footwear (5) Hard hat/bump cap (6) Safety Vest


Physical Demands: See the Physical Capabilities as listed below.


Skills: Requires a valid Oregon CDL with doubles and triples endorsement and medical card. Operate a class A vehicle/tractor w/ semi-trailer to transport lumber and other freight from one location to another in accordance with Federal, State, County, and Company regulations. Must understand and comply with hours-of-service rules. Ability to drive safely under extreme conditions such as mud, rain, wind, snow, and ice. Excellent, safe, driving record. Basic math, reading, and writing skills are required to complete daily log book in accordance with Federal regulations.

(3) Always use proper body mechanics (ex: don’t over reach, get help as needed to push loads out). (4) Use proper PPE (gloves, eye protection, hearing protection). (5) Be aware of and communicate with your co-worker at all times (ex: forklift driver). (6) Will be required to read and write during safety training.
