Position title: Lead Driver Coordinator

Reports to: Plant Manager

Department: General Plant and Overhead

Hours per shift: Employee works 11-hour shifts, with two 10-minute breaks, and 30-minute unpaid lunch.

Wage: Level 6, $27.08

Position Purpose: The lead driver coordinator will oversee the Roseburg operations lift truck operators. This includes the big lift operators for the sawmill, planer, and kilns as well as the smaller lift trucks at the planer and shipping departments. The goal for this position is to build a high-performance team of drivers who have a culture of safety and quality as their goal.

Position Functions:

Essential Functions*

These duties are designated as ADA Essential Functions and must be performed in this job.

Oversight of all production lift truck drivers on site. Ensure all drivers are following the correct procedures (safety and other), performing their job within quality standards, oversees all training for lift truck drivers in production, and verifies that each driver meets our safety standards for a production driver.

Responsible for job certifications and evaluations of all lift truck drivers in production. The driver coordinator will coordinate with the shift supervisor, lead, and or superintendent to perform evaluations and will include the direct supervisor and or lead in the evaluation process. Communicate regularly with direct supervisor regarding progress, issues, or improvement opportunities.

Responsible for coordinating the post shift check-ins with the lift truck drivers. You will be responsible for coordinating with the shift leads and or supervisors to communicate the information collected at the post-shift check in.

Responsible for auditing the pre-shift inspection reports and communicating safety issues, concerns, or other items noted by drivers. Coordinator is responsible for communicating forklift issues with truck shop manager, mechanics, and other appropriate personal.

Oversees the initial training of lift truck operators while following the company procedures for training and will verify the driver is ready to advance to fulltime production driving.

Inventory management: Follow the company procedures for lift truck drivers labeling units in rows and kilns and verify that units are scanned into the correct location.

Safety compliance: Oversees the OSHA mandated lift truck training program and communicates deficiencies of the program to the Plant Manager. Coordinator will be required to complete the 8-hour, D2000 train the trainer course.

Performs kiln loading quality and yard loading quality checks and provides feedback to the employee regarding quality issues. Will communicate with the department supervisor and superintendents’ quality issues, both positive and negative.

Coordinator will fill in for a vacant position or fill in when an operator is out due to absence.

Non-Essential Functions

These duties are secondary in nature and are not classified as ADA essential.

Assist maintenance personnel with basic maintenance.

Facility clean-up tasks.

Working Environment: (1) Inside 30%, average temperature 80 degrees, extreme low temperature 10 degrees F, extreme high temperature 105 degrees F. (2) Outside 70%. Noise or vibration: Machine noise to include machines being operated as well as other machines close by. Hazards: See Job Hazard Analysis. (3) Atmospheric conditions: Dust: Limited, Mist: Water, Odors: Dry wood, Gasses: None, Poor Ventilation: None.


Personal Protective Equipment Required: (1) Eye Protection. (2) Hearing Protection. (3) Gloves when handling lumber, kiln sticks, etc. (4) Approved Footwear (5) High visibility vest

Physical Demands: See the attached Job/Task Evaluation and Physical Capabilities portion; this position requires constant use of hearing and vision, frequent walking on level and uneven walking surfaces including stairs, steps etc., and occasional lifting/carrying/ more than 20 lbs.

Skills: Must successfully complete D2000 train the trainer course. Must have excellent hand eye coordination. Use vision/hearing continuously and must have peripheral vision. Reading and speech required to communicate comprehension of Job Hazard Analysis, forklift training curriculum & other documents. Worker performs essential functions with little supervision. Lead Driver Coordinator must be self-directed in identifying and efficiently completing each task. Ability to prioritize, organize, and make necessary decisions in a timely manner.

Safety: (1) Only perform maintenance you are trained to do and keep all body parts out of machinery.

(2) Always use our 14 step lockout procedures & buddy lockout before performing any maintenance or getting into machinery for any reason; be aware of stored energy. (3) Always use proper body mechanics. (4) Use proper PPE (gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, gloves). (5) Maintain awareness of and communicate with your co-workers at all times. (6) Will be required to read and write.
