JOB TITLE Check Scaler & Quality Control Manager


LOCATION Roseburg, Oregon


REPORTS TO Vice President of Resources


POSITIONS SUPERVISED None


SALARY RANGE Pay range comparable to industry standards, and is dependent on experience


POSITION SUMMARY

Conduct check scales on Bureau Scalers at all three log yards, measuring accuracy on scale volume as well as log quality according to company metrics. This position would also be required to back up the two logging managers to cover vacations as well as peak production months. Other duties such as slash burning and tree planting may be required at times.

JOB DUTIES (priority order)

  1. Conduct check scales at all three log yards each week.
  2. Report accuracy on volume as well as log quality.
  3. Report any scaler issues immediately to VP of Resources.
  4. Report any log quality issues immediately to the appropriate log buyer or logging manager.
  5. Produce weekly KPI reports including log quality summaries by location as well as check scales by scaler.
  6. Attend weekly KPI meetings and present all summaries to the group.
  7. Act as the liaison between the scaling bureau and log accounting as needed.
  8. Produce sort sheets & cutting cards as needed for each new job.
  9. Supervision of log test assembly as they are needed for each mill.
  10. Back-up logging managers to supervise operations or help start cutters on new jobs.
  11. Help with forestry related activities on company lands and contract jobs.
  12. Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

EDUCATION, SKILLS, ABILITIES

Secondary education or equivalent. Necessary computer skills include Microsoft Word & Excel. Qualifications include attention to detail, excellent communication skills, self motivator and the ability to multi-task. Must have a clear understanding of logs, log measurements and scaling. A background in forest harvesting processes, background and knowledge in milling operations including safety, production and recovery, will be needed. Forestry background and degree desirable.
