Description:
Position Title: Boiler/ Steam Supervisor
Reports to: Boiler Manager
Positions Supervised: Boiler Operators, Boiler Utility
Department: Plywood
Hours per shift: TBD
Wage: Determined depending on knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience.
Position Requirements/Purpose: Need to have Boiler experience. Need to maintain optimal boiler operations to ensure product quality. Boiler Supervisor will bring forth issues and resolves them through formal action planning, maintain high levels of communication between all members of the Maintenance, Production, & Management Teams. Schedule shut down lists and have tools, parts and supplies ready. Facilitate Monthly training. Title 5. Rebuild cylinders, valves, traps, and pumps. Troubleshoot steam controlers. Will be expected to work all shut downs.
Position Functions:

Organize, prioritize, and schedule steam cycles. Delegate tasks to appropriate members of the boiler department staff. Audit completed work for accuracy. |
Focus on existing equipment & design to improve steam production, reduce downtime to targeted levels. Create action plans to focus on issues & set boiler goals. |
Define, develop and oversee a program to organize the Boiler department resources and efforts. Teamwork and communication are essential to a high level of job performance. Act as coach and mentor for all positions supervised. |
Set goals for the Boiler Team with the support of the Mill Superintendent and Production Supervisors. Work with positions supervised to create individual career goals and objectives. |
Document and track current systems. Require all positions supervised to observe personnel and equipment in operation as well as to provide technical assistance to operators whenever needed |
Takes the lead in safety. Ensure that all workers under his/her supervision are given adequate safety training, coaching, and the proper tools to safely to the job. Promote safety awareness. Ensure proper use of lockout/tagout and PPE . Encourage good housekeeping. Respond to employee and safety committee safety concerns in a timely manner. |

Working Environment: (1) Inside 90%, average temperature 70 degrees F (2) Outside 10%; extreme low temperature 10 degrees F, extreme high temperature 105 degrees F. Noise or vibration: Machine noise to include machine being operated as well as other machines close by including Forklifts. Hazards: See Job Hazard Analysis. (3) Atmospheric conditions: Fumes: Wood, Dust: Limited, Mist: Water, Odors: Wood particle, Gasses: None, Poor Ventilation: None
Personal Protective Equipment Required: (1) Eye Protection. (2) Hearing Protection. (3) Rubber or Leather based gloves when handling dry veneer. (4) Approved Footwear.
Physical Demands: See the Physical Capabilities as listed below; this position requires constant use of hearing and vision, bilateral use of arms and hands, frequent bending, twisting, pushing/pulling and reaching, and occasional lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling more than 30 lbs.
Skills: Must have excellent hand eye coordination. Use vision/hearing continuously. Reading and speech required to communicate comprehension of Job Hazard Analysis, machine specific lockout procedures, monthly safety training, etc. Worker generally works alone with little supervision. Operators must be self-directed in identifying and efficiently completing each task. Ability to prioritize, organize and make necessary decisions.
Secondary education or equivalent. Qualifications include supervisory experience, ability to coordinate crew movements, be familiar with all equipment and its operation (including machine capabilities, product quality, standard production rates), excellent communication skills, technical assistance skills, computer literate. Mechanical aptitude. Ability to excel in fast paced production environment. Must be decisive. Flexible work hours.
Safety: (1) Do only maintenance you are trained to do and keep all body parts out of machinery. (2) Always use our 14 step lockout/tagout procedure before doing any maintenance, clearing jams, or getting into machinery for any reason; be aware of stored energy. (3) Always use proper body mechanics (ex: don’t over reach, get help as needed to push loads out). (4) Use proper PPE (gloves, eye protection, hearing protection). (5) Be aware of and communicate with your co-worker at all times (ex: forklift driver). (6) Will be required to read and write during safety training.
