Cook to join our dining services team and help us deliver high-quality, nutritious, and delicious meals every day.
About the RoleThe Cook is responsible for preparing well-balanced meals that meet residents' dietary needs while maintaining a safe, clean, and organized kitchen. You'll work as part of a caring team, ensuring meals are both appealing and properly prepared according to menus, recipes, and portion guidelines.
Responsibilities- Prepare and cook a variety of foods in large quantities according to planned menus and recipes
- Ensure food quality, temperature, and presentation meet dietary standards and resident expectations
- Follow portion control and special diet guidelines (including pureed meals when needed)
- Record and monitor food temperatures during meal service
- Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen, including cooking areas, serving carts, and equipment
- Keep sanitizer buckets properly mixed and maintained
- Assist with serving meals and ensure food is delivered in a timely, attractive manner
- Supervise dietary staff in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor
- Participate in training and orientation of new dietary team members
- Report any resident concerns or dietary issues to the Administrator and/or Director of Nursing
- Follow cleaning schedules and assist in maintaining kitchen safety and order
- Promote teamwork and positive communication across all departments
Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of one year of experience as a cook in a hospital, nursing home, or assisted living facility
- Ability to read and follow recipes and dietary guidelines accurately
- Basic math skills (fractions, ratios, and proportions)
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- ServSafe Certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)
- Must remain in good standing with the Department of Public Health
Physical Requirements- Ability to stand and walk for long periods
- Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds
- Frequent pushing, pulling, and reaching
- Occasional bending, kneeling, or crouching
- Must be able to taste, smell, and visually assess food quality
- Work involves exposure to kitchen heat, cleaning supplies, and moderate noise
