Cook Job Description

General Purpose:
The Cook is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly kitchen while preparing nutritious and appealing meals in large quantities. This role requires adherence to menu plans, portion control, and special dietary needs while ensuring compliance with sanitation standards. We are looking for an individual who will contribute to Columbia Place's positive culture.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen and cooking area.
  • Prepare and cook meals following menus and portion control guidelines.
  • Accurately prepare special diets and pureed foods.
  • Record food temperatures and maintain sanitation standards.
  • Assist with serving meals and ensure the food presentation is appealing.
  • Clean cooking area, serving carts, and utensils.
  • Report resident care concerns to Administrator or Director of Nurses.
  • Participate in training and orienting new dietary staff.
  • Ensure adherence to cleaning schedules and guidelines.
  • Supervise in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor.

Qualifications:
  • Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent; at least 1 year of experience as a cook in a hospital or long-term care facility.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and follow recipes, and technical procedures. Ability to present information clearly and respond to questions from managers and staff.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions in practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve problems and interpret written, oral, and diagram instructions.
  • Certifications: Must obtain and maintain a ServSafe Certificate and remain in good standing with the Department of Public Health.

Physical Demands:
  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching, and pushing/pulling.
  • Occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to see clearly at various distances and adjust focus.

  • Low to moderate noise levels.
