The Upstream Product Manager provides critical input to product line and direction for the Neuromodulation R& D program. The Upstream Product Manager plays an active role in ensuring the customer needs are properly prioritized and represented during the development cycle.
The incumbent obtains information about market needs from external resources via face-to-face interviews, user observations, labs, conferences, or literature analysis. They provide voice of customer, technical input, and make decisions on trade-offs needed to ensure the product meets the customer needs. In addition, they provide continuing analysis of competitive information and interface with development groups to provide ongoing support and guidance.
Furthermore, the incumbent provides technical input in the design and implementation of a comprehensive product marketing plan which may include establishing business plans, sales modeling, and preparing for product launch.
While some background in engineering and medical device field is necessary, in-depth training will also be provided to ensure a high level of product understanding and proficiency in spinal cord stimulation and pain management.
Your Responsibilities - Determine unmet customer needs to identify meaningful differentiation opportunities for product improvements, making decisions on technical trade-offs and ensuring the feasibility of solutions.
- Generate customer product requirements and participate in creation of system specifications to ensure customer/user needs are represented.
- Convey product vision, feature prioritization, and associated rationale through presentations and reports targeting various internal and external audiences.
- Actively solicit and conduct primary market research (labs, interviews, field observations, etc) with patients, clinicians, and sales representatives, and collaborate with sales and downstream marketing to inform prioritization and definition of products and features
- Collaborate on product roadmap creation and prioritization by identifying potential product features and unmet customer needs.
- Conduct market research (focus on US market), competitive analysis, and literature reviews in the field of spinal cord stimulation; remain current on market dynamics and competitive developments.
- Partner with internal teams to inform strategies for regulatory approval, reimbursement, intellectual property, and clinical evidence to support marketing claims.
- Contribute to business planning, including sales forecasting and quantification of business impact
- Support development of product training and product launch.
- Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of the manager.

Your Profile - BS/MS in either Engineering, Science, Marketing, or other technical field with equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience participating in medical device development/product teams. Active implantables/neurostimulation background a plus.
- Familiarity with considerations and terminology of health care and/or medical device industry.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, with experience in clear communication and interaction with customers and internal management.
- Strategic thinking and analytical skills.
Preferred Education and Experience - Work experience in marketing, business analysis, medical sales, usability, or product management of implantable neuromodulation devices.
- Strong team player, self-motivated, self-directed, action oriented, able to learn quickly.
- Experience in the healthcare field; medical device, active implantable devices, and particularly neurostimulators and pain management are a plus.
- German language skills.
Travel Requirements: - Occasional travel will be necessary for training and field visits. Travel in the first year up to 20% with travel thereafter up to 15%.
Work Environment: - This job has options for a hybrid role based in Lake Oswego, Oregon -or- A remote role with frequent required travel to Lake Oswego, OR.
To work remotely, this job requires a distraction-free space for remote work that is quiet and conducive to customer facing phone calls. The space should also be suitable for video/audio meetings on Microsoft Teams or similar. The Product Manager will use a provided computer, cell phone, headset, and other office supplies to conduct work.
Travel: - Must be able to travel internationally and domestically. Travel is expected to be less than 30% of the time for fully remote employees and less than 20% of hybrid employees.
