Reporting to the Manager, Digital Transformation, the Project Manager will lead the successful planning, implementation and management of digital projects related to VHA’s various platforms including, but not limited to, the Electronic Medical Record Initiative (EMRI) and VHA’s Remote Care Monitoring solution. In delivering high value projects and initiatives aligned with the Digital Solutions & Support (DS& S) team’s operational and strategic annual deliverables, the preferred candidate will ensure a focus on best practices while producing positive outcomes and solutions for priority initiatives. Championing a co-design approach, the role ensures the voices of clients, families, frontline staff, and partners drive projects from conception to completion. Focusing on adoption of tools and processes that drive sustainability and quality care delivery, the Project Manager will assess potential risks and proactively mitigate project constraints. This role will develop and maintain a collaborative approach to keep partners and stakeholders informed of project status and risks, ensuring that mitigation strategies are established with stakeholders, both internal and external to VHA.


Key skills, experience and behaviors required for this position:

  • Preferably Bachelor’s degree in a related health care discipline from a recognized university.
  • A minimum of three years experience in leading projects, preferably in health-related sector.
  • Project experience stablishing and delivering projects within a large system and/or organization is required.
  • Excellent project management skills, utilizing project planning techniques, methodologies, artifacts and project planning tools and templates.
  • Advanced knowledge and skills in the design, implementation, and operation of clinical information systems
  • Experience and knowledge of the software development life cycle including Waterfall and Agile methodologies.
  • Well-developed knowledge of engaging with and supporting stakeholders within a health care setting to apply change management and design approaches in supporting project execution and adoption of new business processes.
  • Proficient in developing collaborative plans with multiple stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage challenging situations and ability to work under pressure with precision and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to communicate complex information with clarity and precision.
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to apply structure to manage and track multiple projects / programs of work.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Self-directed and able to work effectively with minimal direction in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in applying quality improvement methodologies to achieve outcomes is valuable (e.g. process mapping, value stream analysis, kaizen events etc.)
  • Management Institute (PMI) certification and PROSCI Change Management Practitioner Certification considered assets.
