POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Globe and Mail is looking for an interactive editor to join our digital storytelling team on an 18-month contract.
The successful candidate will be part of a growing team that uses code, data and multimedia to produce impactful journalism for The Globe's audience across all platforms. You should be excited about combining full-stack development with a passion for great journalism. Your approach to design and development should be versatile – the work will range from creating visual, digital experiences for one-off stories to playing a key technological role in the newsroom’s most ambitious projects. You will turn story features into tools and templates, giving colleagues the ability to execute faster on good ideas.
We are small team with a big mandate: to innovate The Globe’s digital storytelling through experimentation and iteration. We work collaboratively across all aspects of The Globe's coverage, including long-term investigative projects, breaking news, immersive story formats and visual templates. We are not prescriptive about tools and technology: editors on the team are journalists first and should be comfortable — and excited — about continually learning new skills and techniques in the service of telling the best story possible. We build on what we learn together as a team, and we value inclusive, accessible design and a supportive, collegial workplace.
Here are a few examples of the kind of work interactive editors on the team have produced recently:
