POSITION OVERVIEW:


Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director, Strategy, Development and Performance is a leader with a keen understanding of market dynamics, financial acumen, and the ability to collaborate, inspire and lead cross-functional teams. This role is accountable for developing The Globe’s long term strategic and financial plan and will build credibility across the organization as a centre of excellence in strategic planning, business development and performance management. This role will provide financial consulting and strategic support to senior leadership, including preparing input for board presentations, preparing financial presentations, industry/peer group comparisons, and leading the finance stream and analysis of projects, including new business opportunities, acquisitions, and financing.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


Strategic Planning

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to identify and prioritize strategic initiatives.
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to inform strategic decisions.
  • Lead the process of developing The Globe’s 3-year strategic and financial plan, including ensuring alignment across the business and developing KPI’s to monitor progress and outcomes

Business Development

  • Proactively identify, analyze and recommend new opportunities in the form of organic or inorganic growth that are outside existing mandates.
  • Support business identified opportunities, including preparing or reviewing business cases.
  • Identify and evaluate potential mergers, acquisitions, partnerships, and alliances.
  • Support the execution of business development initiatives.
  • Assess and manage risks associated with strategic opportunities.
  • Analyze, compare and assess various strategic opportunities including strategic alignment and ROI.

Performance Management

  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of strategic initiatives.
  • Monitor and report on the progress of strategic plans to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Provide insights and recommendations based on performance data and feedback.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Lead and mentor a team of 1-2 professionals.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with various departments to ensure alignment and support of strategic initiatives.
  • Work with senior leadership to shape and gather strategic objectives, navigating to consensus as an Executive team.

Other Responsibilities

  • Preparing the Quarterly CEO report to the Board
  • Gathering of market intelligence to understand the competitive landscape, sharing monthly updates on changes, themes and quantitative results.
  • Supporting and/or leading special projects as they arise.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or a related discipline
  • Professional financial designation (CPA, CA) with a CFA an asset
  • 10+ years of finance/accounting experience with at least 5 years at a management level
  • Deep understanding of the media/publishing/subscription business and industry
  • Proven experience in effectively engaging a variety of stakeholders, communicating complex information, negotiating, collaborating, and building strong relationships
  • Demonstrated experience with executive presentations, reporting, and writing business cases
  • Ability to translate strategic objectives into a financial plan
  • Critical thinking and analysis are key skills
  • People management experience or experience coaching and developing team members
