Description:
Summary
The Customs Compliance Coordinator is responsible for performing customs compliance-related duties on a professional level and works closely with the Customs Compliance Manager, corporate logistics staff, plant-level logistics management and staff, as well as plant and corporate finance.
Job Duties
- Ensuring compliance with CBSA and CBP for all imports and exports.
- Working with FNG customs brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, suppliers and plants to ensure accuracy of entries.
- Managing import and export declarations, certificates of origin and free trade agreement compliance.
- Classifying goods in accordance with Harmonized Tariff Schedule requirements for Canada/US.
- Coordinating and maintaining the part database that drives proper classification of materials imported to or exported from the exported from the US/Canada.
- Assist with the tracking of and responding to inquiries from US and Canada Customs offices.
- Assist plants and additional members of the logistics team with customs related inquiries and solutions.
- Assist Canadian plants with CARM-related activities.
- Conduct landed cost analysis.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of verifiable experience in a customs brokerage setting or in a manufacturing setting with customs compliance responsibility.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in classification of goods for customs purposes.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Certified Customs Specialist or Certified Trade Compliance Specialist required.
- Must be able and willing to travel between the United States and Canada, including maintaining eligibility for cross-border travel.
- Strong working knowledge of US Customs laws and/or willingness to learn.
- Strong working knowledge of Free Trade Agreements / USMCA.
- Ability to read, write and speak English effectively.
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong both written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with database applications and administration systems, specifically Microsoft Office, with emphasis on Excel.
- Ability to work effectively alone and prioritize.
- Must be highly motivated, service and team-oriented individual with an attention to detail.
- Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and associates.
- Strong analytical ability.
- Demonstrated good internal customer service skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects.
- Detail oriented.
- Good computer skills.
