POSITION SUMMARY

Supporting the implementation and operation of construction layout processes on projects across the enterprise, as well as leading layout and field verification efforts using innovative field technologies. The Surveyor should be a flexible, detail-oriented individual that will thrive performing in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, with the ability to multi-task, produce quality deliverables, and meet project-based deadlines.

• Perform field layout and verification using innovative technologies at project jobsites
• Utilize independent judgement, problem-solving ability, and prioritization based on relevant factors
• Good communication skills to articulate challenges and success stories to internal and external clients
• Study and analyze construction drawings and shop drawings to confirm or otherwise establish the planned layout dimensions and elevations for the project
• Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project policy as well as monitoring safety of the survey crew and ensuring all tasks are completed in the safest manner possible
• Inform Superintendent of any variations in the project dimensions and elevations, and assist company and subcontractor personnel to (1) understand the layout, and (2) identify the precise locations of the elements being installed
• Prepare documentation of surveying activities
• Survey, verify and mark actual lines and elevations to provide visual benchmarks for the elements being installed by using measuring tape, electronic distance measuring devices, total stations, and GPS and GPR instruments without direct supervision
• Other functions as may be required or assigned by their supervisor or other authorized individual, including making suggestions of alternative construction methods and techniques, and/or developing interpretations of vague or conflicting information, etc.
• Verify as-built conditions that require the use of surveying techniques
• Provide topographic and cross-section surveys as required
• Leading the survey crew and training junior surveyors
• Ability to quickly learn new hardware/software tools and teach others
• Serve as an ambassador for efforts and services internally/externally and collaborate with project teams
• Ability to travel, to various construction sites; plan and execute multiple projects daily

Ability to work flexible hours due to project or site constraints, including occasional early, late, or weekend hours

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Education

• Minimum 5+ years relevant construction experience in construction layout and/or surveying
• Preferred experience with robotic total stations and GPS instruments, lasers, tapes, range poles, rods, and levels
• Thorough understanding and knowledge of the calculations employed in levelling, traversing, topographic surveys, mapping, construction surveys, laying out curves, and calculating volumes
• Associate’s degree or Professional Course work in construction management, engineering, architecture or similar field a plus
• ICI construction experience is preferred
• Experience with construction management related applications such as Bluebeam, Procore, Microsoft Office, or other similar software systems
• Experience with VDC technologies such as Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and other similar software systems a plus
• Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) experience a plus
• Ability to lift/carry equipment (10-30 pounds)
• Stand and work on feet majority of the day in a construction environment
• Excellent mathematical skills
