Description:

Facilities Management is seeking to hire a Instrumentation & Controls Technician within the Utilities division in Facilities Management at the University of Oklahoma. This position will be responsible for the monitoring, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all instrumentation and controls associated with Utility Services to include commodities, production plants, wells, water towers, and several hundred miles of associated underground utility distribution.

Job Duties:

  • Operates, troubleshoots and repairs hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, electronic, and digital instruments.
  • Troubleshoots, installs, and performs maintenance on electrical and electronic equipment as required.
  • Monitors critical delta pressures and temperatures for distribution points all over campus.
  • Makes adjustments to controls within the Norman campus.
  • Repairs and performs maintenance on relay and control system.
  • Tests and inspects instruments and systems to diagnose and correct issues.
  • Repairs and adjusts system components including sensors, transmitters, and programmable logic controllers.
  • Calibrates components and instruments for all transmitters, wells, and water towers.
  • Interprets and uses in-house and manufacturer's electrical, mechanical, and electronic schematics and prints.
  • Works with vendors and submits work orders for other departments and OU teams.
  • Logs repair and maintenance activities and creates reports.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

Educational requirements:

  • high school

Desired Skills:

Required Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED, AND:

  • 24 months of experience in maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, repair, and installation of utility instrumentation and controls.

Equivalence/Substitution: Will accept completion of a two-year technical trade school in lieu of the required 24 months of experience.

Skills:

  • Able to communicate well and build rapport quickly with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team and independently.
  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload.
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, or extended hours.
  • May be required to remain on campus overnight during weather or other emergencies.
  • Requires proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and metering test equipment.

Certifications:

  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License in order to drive University vehicles or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire date.

Working Conditions:

  • Physical: Ability to use hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials and manipulating things. Able to lift, push, pull, or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted. Uses stairs and ladders. Engage in repetitive motions. Walk and stand for short or extended time periods. Ability to grasp, reach, twist, bend, and kneel. Wear appropriate safety equipment.
  • Environmental: Field-based and industrial work environment with large machinery. Works outside for long periods in all weather conditions. Exposure to steam, low - high voltage, hazardous chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, extreme noise, dirt, and dust. Possibility of slippery surfaces. Work in confined spaces and on elevated platforms. May be designated as an essential position during emergency closures. May be required to remain on campus overnight during weather or other emergencies.
