The Technical Writer performs professional-level work in planning, organizing and executing policy and legislation research, writing and analysis for publicly-funded clients of the University Outreach Center for Public Management. All applicants must submit a writing sample reflecting analytical and research abilities.

Job Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Writes and/or completes technical materials, to include but not limited to grant applications, consent forms, research material, and protocols.
  • Manages information such as data entry, technical reports, and research documents.
  • Arranges for the duplication and distribution of materials.
  • Conducts research and compiles materials and information.
  • Provides technical writing assistance to a college or department.
  • Perform professional-level work in planning, organizing and executing policy and legislation research, writing and analysis.
  • Draft administrative rules, policies, proposed legislation and policy memos in accordance with agency and division mission and strategic plan
  • Assist in coordinating the dissemination of policy and legislation documents and related materials.
  • Serve on process improvement teams to analyze and document policy requirements and procedures.
  • Advise on future policy requirements, priorities, activities and timetables.
  • Monitor policy and legislative changes at federal and state levels to determine effect on state law and rules and procedures.
  • Review proposed forms, publications, educational materials and other documents to evaluate consistency with existing and revised law and policy.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

The Technical Writer must focus on the customer, collaborate effectively with others, demonstrate high integrity and develop and maintain effective working relationships.

Educational requirements:

  • high school

Desired Skills:

Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, or related field, AND:

  • 24 months experience as a writer.

Equivalency Substitution: Will accept 48 months related experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree for a total of 72 months of related experience.

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Proficient in copy writing, editing, proofreading and composition
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a timely manner
  • Interpersonal skills

  • None

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Physical: Must be able to communicate effectively and listens. Sit for prolonged periods. Frequent keyboarding. Ability to engage in repetitive motions.
  • Environmental: Standard Office Environment. Frequent exposure to pressure caused by deadlines and busy periods. Some travel required.
