Title- Senior Applications Developer (level Ill)
Team- IT Enterprise Applications

The Senior Applications Developer plays a critical role in designing, building, and maintaining mission-critical enterprise systems at the University. The primary focus is Ellucian Banner Student, with extensive responsibility for integrating Banner with third-party platforms and services such as AppWorx, TouchNet, International Student & Scholar Management, Salesforce, Stellic, and other institutional applications.

This role requires a strong background in enterprise integrations, including Ellucian Ethos, APIs, and other middleware technologies, to ensure seamless data exchange and process automation across the institution’s systems. The Senior Developer will provide strategic technical leadership in planning, implementing, and supporting ERP solutions in a Higher Education environment.

As a senior member of the team, you will collaborate with both IT peers and administrative/academic offices, helping translate institutional needs into sustainable, secure, and effective solutions. You will also mentor intermediate developers, contribute to technical standards, and help ensure the long-term stability and scalability of the University’s application ecosystem.

The function of this position is that of an Application Developer who will work closely with administrative and academic offices on campus to plan, develop, implement and support our mission critical ERP systems such as Ellucian Banner. As an integral member of a team of cross-functional developers, this position will ensure the stability, and uptime of the University's enterprise systems and any relevant third-party applications ensuring that the service and business needs of the entire campus is met.

This position provides leadership for the development of new solutions, modifications/customizations/updates of existing solutions as required by the customer.

Essential Duties:

  • Utilizes development tools to design, implement and maintain processes that involve XML, Java, Web
  • Services, Page Builder, workflow, CSS, and various interfaces.
  • Provides application support including system monitoring and processing, handling user questions and queries, investigating and solving environment issues, supporting third party integrations, providing on-call services to support mission critical systems.
  • Performs business analysis to gather customer business requirements.
  • Prepares and maintains functional and technical specification documents.
  • Supports application upgrades, including code/object retrofits.
  • Develops SQL queries as needed to validate data.
  • Performs unit and system testing as needed.
  • Works with team leaders and other colleagues to assure compatibility and consistency across other systems and applications.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

Desired Skills:

Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree AND:

  • 48 months experience in application and software development and/or custom solutions.

Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months related experience in lieu of the bachelor’s degree for a total of 96 months related experience.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of Identity Management, SSO, and security protocols in Higher Education contexts.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices, trends, and applications.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Ethos integrations, APIs, or data exchange between Banner and third-party applications.
  • Strong development skills with some or all of the following: Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, XML, HTML, Grails, and Ellucian Page Builder.
  • Proven experience in Higher Education IT environments, with understanding of academic and administrative processes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the initiative to design sustainable, scalable solutions.
  • Experience with workflow automation, system monitoring, and troubleshooting complex integrations.
  • Ability to work in a remote/distributed team environment with cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Ability to program in at least one programming language.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Customer service and interpersonal skills.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Experience with Salesforce integration and Higher Education CRMs.
  • Familiarity with AppWorx job scheduling and TouchNet payment systems.
  • Experience mentoring intermediate developers or leading small technical teams.
  • Advanced experience with Ellucian Banner Student applications and related Higher Education ERP systems.
