IT Senior Director – Chief Technology Officer
Summary
Serves as a top University information technology leader with responsibility for leading the technical vision and delivery of IT capabilities across all 3 campuses. Provides leadership, strategic planning, and operational oversight to ensure the development, alignment, and execution of enterprise-wide technology services. This position plays a critical role in transforming technical teams from primarily operational support units into highly capable contributors toward strategic institutional priorities, with particular focus on modernization, innovation, data infrastructure, and internal control remediation.
Drives a clear, forward-looking technology strategy that aligns with the University’s mission and IT vision. The role is accountable for providing the right technology vision, strategy and roadmap to enable the organization’s digital business transformation ambitions. Leads integration and realignment of technical teams across enterprise IT to improve coordination, elevate performance, and increase delivery of strategic outcomes. Oversees architecture, infrastructure, and technical operations with a focus on scalability, resilience, and modernization. Provides vision and direction for technology roadmaps, enterprise platforms, and data infrastructure, and works with leadership across the institution to translate university needs into scalable, sustainable technology solutions.
Partners with IT leadership to rethink how operational and support functions are executed to maximize the contribution of highly skilled technical staff. This position is accountable for identifying key emerging trends and technologies, evolving the architecture to support new, emerging technologies, and modernizing the infrastructure. Champions new models of support delivery, automation, and continuous service improvement. Oversees the implementation of technology standards, performance metrics, and service-level expectations that raise technical maturity. Leads cross-functional collaboration with cybersecurity, enterprise applications, networking, and support teams to ensure seamless, high-quality IT service delivery.
Provides leadership for the innovation of components of the university’s data ecosystem in close partnership with key stakeholders and data governance leaders. Leads development and lifecycle management of data platforms, integrations, and architectures that support advanced reporting, analytics, and business intelligence. Ensures alignment with data privacy, security, and stewardship standards, while improving usability and reliability of data infrastructure for university decision making.
Improves the visibility, understanding, and predictability of technology changes across the institution. Establishes mechanisms to proactively communicate user impacts, system updates, and technical changes. Builds strong relationships with campus leaders, governance bodies, and key stakeholders to ensure that technical services are responsive to institutional needs. Serves as an advocate for a collaborative, service-oriented IT culture grounded in accountability, transparency, and shared success.
