Description:

The Director of Assessment and Evaluation provide strategic leadership, oversight, and innovation in the design, implementation, analysis, and continuous quality improvement of assessment systems and program evaluation processes in the MD program. This role ensures that assessment practices are robust, data-driven, student-centered, and aligned with institutional missions, visions, and goals, accreditation standards (e.g., Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME)), and national best practices in medical education.

The Director works closely with faculty, course and clerkship directors, curriculum leaders, and other stakeholders to develop and oversee a comprehensive program of learner assessment and program evaluation. The Director of Assessment and Evaluation analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement and disseminates findings to relevant stakeholders and committees.

Duties:

  • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive, longitudinal assessment program aligned with MD program mission and vision and educational program objectives and competencies.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and continuous quality improvement processes and programmatic evaluation.
  • Serve as a key contributor to accreditation self-studies, site visits and committees.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of assessment tools across pre-clerkship and clerkship phases (e.g., written exams, OSCEs, workplace-based assessments).
  • Provide input and guidance on the development of assessment tools for competency-based education, grading policies, and remediation processes.
  • Monitor assessment quality through psychometric analysis and item performance review.
  • Develop dashboards and reporting tools for stakeholders.
  • Performs various other duties as assigned to successfully fulfill the function of the position assigned by the Vice Dean of Education.

Educational requirements:

Desired Skills:

Required Education and Experience: Doctoral degree (PhD) in the fields of statistical sciences, data science/analytics, biostatistics/epidemiology, psychometrics/quantitative psychology, bioinformatics, engineering, or AI/machine learning, information technology, AND:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in higher education.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
  • Excellent communication abilities.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, manage multiple projects, deadlines, and engaging with various stakeholders.

Supervision: Yes

Departmental Preferences:

  • Experience in higher education, preferably in a medical school or other health professions school.
  • Proficiency with assessment software, statistical tools (e.g., SPSS, R), qualitative analysis and other research methodologies, and data visualization platforms.
