Licensure/Certifications:
  • Active Ohio EMT-P (Paramedic) Certification required
  • BLS (American Heart Association) - required at time of hire
  • ACLS (American Heart Association) - required before completion of department orientation
  • PALS (American Heart Association) - required within 6 months of hire
  • NRP (American Academy of Pediatrics) - required within 1 year of hire
  • HazMat Training (Awareness and Operations) - required within 1 year of hire and annually thereafter
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) - preferred
  • EKG Competency - passing score required upon hire and annually
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 1 year of paramedic experience required
  • Training & Education:
  • Completion of mandatory annual education for unit-specific, hospital-wide, and safety training
  • De-escalation training (WCH) - required within 1 year of hire
  • Triage training (WCH) - required within 1 year of hire
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • CPI training preferred
  • Awareness and Operations HazMat training preferred at time of hire
PATIENT POPULATION - (CLINICAL ONLY)
  • Engages in population appropriate communication.
  • Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks.
  • Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment.
  • Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient.
  • Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.
  • Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems.
  • Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately. Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious/cultural norms.
  • Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely.
  • Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.

Patient Care:
  • Utilizes knowledge and skills to provide assistance for patient care needs
  • Demonstrates ability to prioritize and multi- task
  • Under the direction of the RN, performs delegated patient care, including but not limited to: insertion of IVs, insertion of IVs with Prevue, insertion of IOs, 12 lead EKGs, phlebotomy, specimen collection, vital signs, crutch walking, splinting, wound irrigation, suture set up, and application of dressing.
  • Able to collect, report, and document observations and patient care
  • Use of specialized medical equipment including, but not limited to, monitors, EKG machine, IO, and prevue.
  • Under the direction of the RN, assists physician and nursing staff with procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Assists with patient triage process Performs HazMat decontamination
  • Understands de-escalation principles and utilizes skills/techniques in appropriate situations
  • Answering patient call lights promptly and politely sensitive to patient limitations and by identifying nursing unit and self by first name

  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills and involvement in problem solving
  • Maintains patient's needs for privacy and confidentiality during all communication
  • Utilizes ENA standards as a guide to provide safe patient care

  • Participates in the hospital's Emergency Operations Plan during disaster situations
  • Communicates with various departments in a cooperative manner
  • Performs quick registration of patients
  • Effectively communicates to patients and families
  • Ordering, stocking, and cleaning assigned area
  • Maintains specialty carts Transports patients
  • Responsible for Point of Care quality assurance and tests
  • Performs clerical duties as directed

  • Conducts self in an orderly and professional manner at all times
  • Serves as a role model with all members of the health care team, patients, family members, and visitors
