The Director of System Public Safety will assure and maintain a safe and secure health environment for all patients, personnel, visitors, and property. To maintain safety and health standards for compliance with all OSHA, EPA, JCAHO, and other regulatory agencies. Develop, implement, and direct an ongoing safety and health program for all UC Health locations as assigned.Undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice, Security Administration, Homeland Security, or Business Administration or required. Post graduate degree in Business Management, Management, Accounting, or Homeland Security preferred. In-depth supervision and investigative in the areas of law enforcement/corporate/hospital security, or a minimum of ten (10) years security/police supervision at the rank of Lt. or above is preferred. | If the candidate will be commissioned as a police officer in the State of Ohio he/she must possess the Ohio Peace Office Training Academy (OPOTA) certification as a Police Officer with the minimum hours of training required by OPOTA, and not have a break in service as a commissioned police officer for more than one (1) year.
At least one of the following certifications must be obtained within one year of appointment to this position: Certified Protection Professional (CPP); Certified Health Protection Administrator (CHPA); Professional Certified Investigator (PCI); or Certified Homeland Security Professional (CHSP).Security Duties and Responsibilities: - 45%
Responsible for the direct supervision of all public safety supervisory officers, paid consultant serving as Police Chief, communications (dispatch) center staff, and supervisory parking staff. Delegates tasks, coaches, performs evaluations, and hires staff as needed or required. Oversees day to day public safety operations; investigations and incident reports; and communications (dispatch) center. Collaborates with outside law enforcement agencies and various other healthcare facilities as necessary. Coordinates and maintains effective relationships with other management and administrative personnel to deliver effective and efficient security and safety services for all locations. Develops, implements, and enforces Safety & Security and Parking policies and procedures. Develops and implements loss prevention and access control procedures as necessary. Monitors investigations, reviews reports and statistics to identify trends and implements preventative measures. Stays abreast of criminal activities in and around all facility locations. Negotiates vendor budget for security and/or police services and directly oversees that vendor's performance. Prepares and manages budget for all Public Safety annual expenditures. Directly supervises activities of Access Systems Administrator. Develops and implements an organizational strategy for Access Control and ID Systems. Interface with and insure the compatibility of various access control hardware and software. Investigates, recommends, and implements cost effective system software and hardware upgrades and enhancements. Serves as the in-house expert which provides training, assistance, and technical advise to end users and departmental staff. Partners with Design & Construction, Plant Operations and Maintenance, and outside vendors to insure the quality and integrity of the overall access control system. Performs others duties as requested or assigned.
Safety Duties and Responsibilities: - 25%
Partners and coordinates with hospital(s) Emergency Management personnel regarding fire, safety, and emergency disaster planning. Serves as the Chairperson of the Security & Safety Committee. Participates and partners with other hospital safety personnel and department heads regarding safety standards and revisions for fire, underwriters, JCAHO, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies regarding inspections and incident reporting. Monitors fire alarms and reviews fire reports to identify problems and concerns, and then offers recommendations for implementation of strategies to alleviate or mitigate those identified concerns. Assists in the development and implementation of safety/fire policies and procedures. Oversees the conducting of hospital(s) and various facilities security related surveys and audits as needed, and assists with the development of short and long range plans for both the department and the organization. Performs other duties as requested or assigned.
Garage(s) Operation and Personnel Duties: - 15%
Insures parking operations for all facilities are functioning properly. Prepares and implements parking policies and procedures for optimum utilization of all parking facilities. Plans and budgets for the acquisition of new or the replacement of equipment to keep the garages operating at an effective level. Performs other duties as requested or assigned.
Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate journals, books, and other literature; and by attending related seminars, conferences, in-services conferences, and in-services training; this includes seminar attendance to maintain required designations for this position. conferences and inservices. - 10%
