Job Summary: The primary nursing responsibilities would involve providing care and support to clients who are undergoing treatment for substance use and/or mental health disorders. The role of the nurse is crucial in helping clients through the recovery process and ensuring their well-being. Core Responsibilities: Assessment and Monitoring: o Conduct initial assessments (RN) of clients to determine their physical and mental health status, including evaluating their substance abuse history and any co-occurring conditions. o Monitor clients throughout their treatment to assess their progress and address any issues that may arise. o Assess clients in an individual or group setting who are experiencing active withdrawal while providing a safe and supportive environment. Medication Administration: o Administer medications as prescribed by medical providers in an inpatient setting. Client Education: o Provide education to clients and their families about addiction, recovery, and mental health treatment options, and healthy lifestyle choices. o Teach clients about medication management, coping skills, and strategies for relapse prevention. Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Team: o Work closely with medical providers, therapists, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized treatment plans for clients. Crisis Intervention: o Respond to emergencies and crises within the facility, such as code blue, overdose situations, or clients experiencing severe withdrawal symptoms. o Provide immediate medical care and interventions to stabilize clients and ensure their safety. Documentation and Record-Keeping: o Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including client assessments, treatment plans, medication administration records, and progress notes. o Ensure compliance with all legal and ethical standards related to client confidentiality and record-keeping. Support for Clients and Families: o Offer emotional support and guidance to clients and their families throughout the recovery process. o Help clients develop coping skills, set goals for recovery, and navigate challenges they may face during treatment. Advocacy and Referrals: o Advocate for clients' needs and collaborate with community resources to provide comprehensive care. o Make referrals to external healthcare providers, support groups, or social services as needed to support long-term recovery. Quality Improvement and Compliance: o Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance client care and outcomes. o Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and best practices in addiction and mental health treatment. Other duties as assigned within the medical department. Flexibility to adapt to schedule changes and assumption of responsibilities not delineated in the job description which are related to work as a member of an addiction treatment team. Education Requirements: Associates degree in nursing required. License Requirements: Unrestricted Registered Nurse License in the state of Ohio. BLS Certification required, will train upon hire. Experience Requirements: 1 or more years of experience working in addiction recovery and/or behavioral health field. Knowledge of addiction and behavioral health nursing. Knowledge of community health resources that support life improvement in physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health, economic security, employment, positive social and family interdependence and positive cultural identity including: ? Knowledge of referral procedures and admittance criteria for health care and community providers. ? Ability to network and collaborate with healthcare and other social and cultural agencies that can provide services to the clients and families. ? Knowledge of the 12-Step Recovery Program. ? Knowledge and competency in problem solving, stress management, ethics and team building. Knowledge of alcohol and other drugs that includes: ? Alcohol and addictive drugs and their physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual impact on the individual. ? Alcohol and addictive drugs and their impact on the family. ? Ability to determine if a medical emergency exists and to take appropriate action, when necessary. Knowledge of emergency procedures used in case of alcohol and/or drug overdose. Knowledge of the stages of alcohol and other drug withdrawals and ability to take appropriate action at each stage. Knowledge of Federal, State and Municipal laws and/or regulations that regulate the treatment of alcoholism and drug addiction, including: ? Confidentiality ? Patient Rights ? Professional Code of Ethics ? Discrimination Knowledge of airborne and blood borne pathogens (TB, HIV, AIDS, HB) and risk reduction methodologies and the use of universal precautions.
