SCOPE OF ROLEReporting to the Director, Grants and Fund Development, the Grant Writer is responsible for raising support from foundations, corporations, and government agencies for the strategic priorities of Signature Health. The Grant Writer will research and strategize new funding opportunities, steward relationships with foundations and corporations, write persuasive grant applications, and complete grant reporting.
HOW YOU'LL SUCCEED - Serve as Signature Health's grant writer for foundation and corporate grants, collaborating with service line leaders to develop compelling content for grant applications though storytelling, data, and persuasive writing. Submit applications ensuring submissions contain all required information, including narratives, budgets, and other attachments.
- Prepare and submit state and local government applications (Ohio Department of Health, Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction, Ohio Attorney General), and request for proposals to the county mental health boards, ensuring submissions contain all required written information and data.
- Write grant reports and other communication with funders on the progress of grant-funded activities, using information and internal data to demonstrate the success of Signature Health's programs to funders.
- Maintain an understanding of grant-funded activities at Signature Health and emerging programs that will require grant funding. Use patient demographics, population health and community data to develop compelling cases for giving aligned with Signature Health's programs.
- Conduct foundation and corporate prospect research to identify funders aligned with Signature Health's programs and strategic priorities. Recommend new funders for cultivation.
- Develop relationships with and serve as a point of contact with funders to facilitate communications, meetings, and site visits.
- Collaborate with the Grants Analyst to develop grant budgets and track spending for private grants.
- Attend funders' annual meetings, workshops, and other community meetings.
- Assist with writing components of larger government grant applications.
- Collaborate with the marketing department to promote grant funding through press releases, social media, newsletters, etc.
- Use Grantseeker grants management system to track deadlines, applications, and reports. Upload and maintain documents to the department's document library.
- Maintain knowledge of best practices in grant writing and trends in the nonprofit and FQHC healthcare sectors through reading, research, participation in seminars and other educational opportunities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE- Bachelor's degree required in English, Journalism, Communication, Public Administration, or Public Health preferred.
- Minimum 2 years' experience in grant writing for a nonprofit or public organization.
- One year of grant writing experience in healthcare or human services field preferred.
- Experience in database management or grant prospect research preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office/clinical work environment. Flexibility to work remote with required days in the office.
- While hours of operation are generally standard, flexibility to work evenings and extended hours may be required.
- Requires periods of sitting, standing, telephone, and computer work.
- Hearing: adequate to hear clients or patients in person, over the telephone or through telehealth technology.
- Speaking: adequate to speak to clients or patients in person, over the telephone or through telehealth technology.
- Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.
- Physical effort required: occasional lifting and carrying items weighing up to 15 pounds, unassisted.
- Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens while performing job duties.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular workday.
- Sufficient dexterity to operate a PC and other office equipment.
