Perma-Pipe in Hebron, OH is looking for an experienced QC Pipe Fabrication Manager The QC Pipe Fabrication Manager is responsible for leading all quality assurance and quality control activities within the pipe fabrication facility. This position ensures compliance with ISO quality standards, applicable welding codes, and customer specifications while maintaining the effectiveness of the facility's Quality Management System (QMS). The role oversees welding inspection programs, non-destructive examination (NDE) coordination, material traceability, and quality documentation while managing a team of quality professionals.
The QC Pipe Fabrication Manager works closely with Production, Engineering, and Operations leadership to ensure products meet all regulatory, industry, and customer requirements while driving continuous improvement across manufacturing processes.
The role is situated in Hebron, OH and is not a remote or hybrid position. Essential Job Functions Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
- Lead the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS).
- Ensure compliance with applicable welding codes and industry standards including AWS D1.1 and ASME B31.1/B31.3.
- Coordinate and manage internal and external audits including ISO, customer, and regulatory audits.
- Develop and maintain quality procedures, inspection plans, and documentation in accordance with company standards and customer specifications.
- Ensure material traceability and document control are maintained throughout the fabrication process.
- Manage corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes related to quality findings and audit results.
Welding Inspections, Compliance and Quality Control
- Oversee welding inspection activities to ensure compliance with AWS, ASME, and project specifications.
- Serve as the facility's Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), reviewing WPS/PQR documentation and verifying welder qualifications.
- Coordinate Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) activities and third-party inspection services when required.
- Investigate nonconformities and perform root cause analysis to identify and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of inspection tools and measurement equipment.
- Maintain inspection records, testing documentation, and quality reports.
Training, Leadership & Quality Culture
- Provide leadership, guidance, and performance oversight to Quality Inspectors, NDE Technicians, and Document Control personnel.
- Train staff on quality standards, inspection procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement within the organization.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Safety teams to improve quality processes and maintain product conformance.
- Report quality performance metrics, audit results, and improvement initiatives to senior leadership.
Qualifications & Skills
- Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and other applicable safety regulations.
- Excellent communication and people skills.
- Ability to lead training sessions and conduct effective incident investigations.
- Meticulous with strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Work Environment
- Industrial manufacturing and pipe fabrication facility.
- Regular presence on the production floor supporting inspection activities and quality oversight.
- Exposure to welding operations, fabrication equipment, moving machinery, noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, steel-toed boots, gloves, and hearing protection while in production areas.
- Occasional overtime may be required to support audits, inspections, or production schedules.
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred, or equivalent industry experience.
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Quality Management or Quality Engineering within pipe fabrication, welding, or heavy industrial manufacturing environments.
- Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 standards and welding codes including AWS and ASME requirements.
- Experience with Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) coordination, quality audits, and material documentation preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and critical thinking skills.
