Perma-Pipe in Hebron, OH is looking for an experienced HSE Specialist

The HSE Specialist is responsible for supporting and promoting a safe and healthy workplace in accordance with OSHA , applicable Ohio safety regulations, and company safety policies. This position assists in the implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of the organization's Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.

This position supports strategic safety initiatives based on audit findings, incident trends, and regulatory changes. The role includes employee training, hazard identification, development of safe work practices, regulatory compliance support, incident response coordination, and day-to-day safety guidance to employees, supervisors, contractors, and visitors.

The role is situated in Hebron, OH and is not a remote or hybrid position.

Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
  • Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations and recommend updates to ensure compliance.
  • Support OSHA recordkeeping requirements (OSHA 300, 300A, 301 logs).
  • Maintain safety documentation systems and contractor compliance platforms.

Inspections, Investigations & Risk Management
  • Perform routine safety inspections, hazard assessments, and behavioral safety observations.
  • Prepare written inspection reports and track corrective actions to completion.
  • Assist with incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
  • Analyze injury and incident trends to recommend program improvements.
  • Monitor employee and contractor compliance with company safety policies and procedures.

Training, Culture & Program Development
  • Conduct new hire and contractor safety orientations in accordance with OSHA and company requirements.
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs, including but not limited to:
  • Hazard Communication (HazCom)
  • Fall Protection
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
  • Confined Space
  • PPE
  • CPR/First Aid/AED
  • Participate in safety committees and promote an initiative-taking safety culture.
  • Support workers' compensation coordination and return-to-work processes.
  • Assist leadership with ongoing development and improvement of safety programs.

Qualifications & Skills
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and other applicable safety regulations.
  • Excellent communication and people skills.
  • Ability to lead training sessions and conduct effective incident investigations.
  • Meticulous with strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Work Environment
  • Manufacturing/industrial setting with exposure to noise, dust, temperature fluctuations, and moving equipment.
  • Frequent interaction with employees, supervisors, contractors, and regulatory representatives.
  • Occasional exposure to outdoor conditions when coordinating with yard personnel.
  • Demanding environment requires adherence to safety policies and procedures.

Education & Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or related field preferred.
  • OSHA 30-Hour certification required (or ability to obtain shortly after hire).
  • CHST, ASP, CSP, or working toward certification preferred.
  • 3-5 years of safety experience in manufacturing, construction, or industrial environments.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA standards, EPA regulations, and Ohio safety requirements.
  • Experience with OSHA recordkeeping and incident investigations.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
