The Communications Technician Intern position in New Knoxville, OH provides entry-level customer support and assists with maintenance to broadband customers in their homes and businesses while learning technical skills. This position will also assist with fiber cable splicing and new construction activities under supervision. The company provides you with a vehicle, tools, and personal protective equipment. Title: Communications Tech Intern

Job Type: Part-time

Rate: $17.00 per hour

Location: New Knoxville, OH

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist with install, disconnect, connect, upgrade, downgrade, make changes, troubleshoot and repair customer provided services at residential and commercial locations.
  • Assist with maintaining broadband system by testing to locate trouble, opening cable to replace or repair defective sections and closing or sealing cable.
  • Assist with splicing cable to protector devices and central office main distribution frame and splices drop cable to the central office cable system.
  • Observe and assist with educating customers in the services being provided and the proper use of equipment.
  • Assist in customer service center troubleshooting customer problems and equipment set up.
  • Maintain an appropriate and professional image of the company through appearance, demeanor, driving habits, and interactions with customers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • A valid Driver’s License and clean driving record is required
  • No prior experience required. Coursework, internship, or demonstrated interest in telecommunications, electronics, or related technical field preferred.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and repairing customer products/services using knowledge of plant distribution and customer equipment operation.
  • Assist in locating and marking underground services utilizing test equipment, prints, and data base mapping software.
  • Assist in splicing and repairing fiber.
  • Basic knowledge or willingness to learn electronics, DC power, and fiber optic equipment.
  • Able to properly operate small hand tools, power tools, and test equipment with training.
  • Ability to learn and work under supervision while developing independent skills.
  • Strong computer skills in Word and Excel
  • Able to accurately measure distances using tapes or other measuring devices.
  • Able to differentiate between different sizes and colors of wires/cables.
  • Ability to work in tight spaces including attics, crawl spaces, cabinets, utility closets, and telco rooms.
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with all OSHA, FCC, NEC, and local ordinances with training and supervision.

Working Conditions:

  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Walk over all types of terrain in all kinds of weather while carrying tools and equipment including ladders
  • Kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, pulling, bending, pushing, reaching above head
  • Work indoors in poorly ventilated areas such as attics during extreme heat
  • Exposure to dust, dirt, noise, insects
  • Part-time schedule based on business need and availability
  • On-call schedules not typically required for interns
