Core Specialty Insurance Services, Inc. is hiring a Assistant General Counsel - Regulatory in Cincinnati, OH. This is a full-time position.

Core Specialty is seeking an Assistant General Counsel to serve as a key legal advisor to business leaders and the compliance department on insurance regulatory matters affecting day-to-day operations.This role will focus on regulatory interpretation and compliance support, helping translate legal requirements into practical business advice across underwriting, product development, claims and licensing.

Key Accountabilities/Deliverables:

  • Provide practical, business-oriented legal advice on insurance regulatory requirements impacting operations, including underwriting, rating, claims, product development, and distribution.

  • Work closely with the compliance department on regulatory change management, forms and rates, policy administration, agency licenses and appointments, insurance company licenses, and consumer complaint handling.

  • Serve as legal advisor in connection with regulatory inquiries, data calls, audits, market conduct exams, and financial exams.

  • Conduct multi-state legal and regulatory research and translate complex regulatory requirements into clear, actionable guidance for business leaders in a fast-paced operating environment.

  • Independently plan and execute special projects as they arise

  • Work closely with the compliance department in relation to changing requirements and in addressing ongoing compliance concerns

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of corporate policies and procedures

  • Provide timely, general legal support across business units and manage special projects as assigned.



Technical Knowledge and Understanding:

  • Understanding of the property and casualty insurance industry.

  • Strong statutory and regulatory research skills.

  • Strong analytical, communication and writing skills.

  • Ability to balance commercial objectives with legal and risk considerations.


Experience Required:

  • Law degree from an ABA accredited law school

  • State bar admission, with ability to obtain limited in-house admission as necessary to fulfil applicable state registration requirements

  • 2 + years’ experience either in-house or as outside counsel providing support to insurance industry clients

  • Experience in insurance regulatory and compliance matters

  • Experience with multi-state regulatory research and analysis
