Job Title: STNA / Bus Driver

Department: Nursing / Transportation
Reports To: Director of Nursing or Transportation Coordinator
Job Summary

The STNA / Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting residents to and from medical appointments, outings, and facility-related activities. This position also provides basic resident care as a State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) when needed, ensuring residents' safety, comfort, and dignity during transport and within the facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Safely transport residents to medical appointments, therapy sessions, hospital visits, and community outings.
  • Assist residents with boarding and exiting the vehicle, including those using wheelchairs, walkers, or other mobility aids.
  • Secure wheelchairs and safety restraints properly during transport.
  • Monitor residents during transport and report any health or safety concerns to nursing staff.
  • Maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of the facility transportation vehicle.
  • Follow all traffic laws, safety guidelines, and facility transportation policies.
  • Communicate with nursing staff regarding resident schedules and transportation needs.
  • Provide basic STNA care when not driving, including:
    • Assisting residents with activities of daily living (ADLs)
    • Helping with transfers and mobility
    • Assisting with toileting, bathing, and grooming
    • Monitoring resident comfort and safety
  • Document transportation services and report incidents or accidents according to facility procedures.
  • Participate in facility training and staff meetings as required.
Qualifications
  • Current State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) certification (Ohio).
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Experience driving wheelchair-accessible vans or buses preferred.
  • CPR certification preferred.
  • Ability to safely assist residents with mobility needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed in a nursing facility and during transportation in facility vehicles.
  • May involve lifting, bending, standing, and assisting residents with mobility.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions during transport.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to assist with resident transfers.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while driving.
  • Ability to push wheelchairs and mobility equipment.
