Warby Parker is hiring!
Description:
Warby Parker is searching for a Technical Designer to own the technical development of our glasses, from initial drawing review through final production approval. As a key member of our Product Development team, you'll work closely with our in-house Design team and overseas manufacturers to ensure that our end result is both production-friendly and consistently achieved in bulk.
Our ideal candidate has a strong eye for technical details and can stay on top of multiple seasons at once while ensuring the fit, construction, and quality of our glasses are perfect. Sound up your alley? Read on!
What you'll do: - Own the end-to-end technical development for frames, ensuring the product meets design intent, product standards, and manufacturing capabilities
- Lead the prototype spec review process by reviewing design drawings with the Eyewear Design team and overseeing the input of all necessary frame components into the Bill of Materials
- Partner with international vendors from drawing kickoff through Technical Design Approval, providing comments, and meeting targeted seasonal development milestones
- Collaborate with the Product Development team on the tracking and maintenance of products throughout prototype and bulk milestones, including change management in PLM and assigning the appropriate product stage gate
- Maintain accountability for the TD measurement and drawing libraries, ensuring all documentation is up-to-date to reflect current development and production approvals
- Manage the Technical Design Coordinator and execute components using 3D design and drawing software
- Operate the 3D printing, curing, and sample assembly processes as needed
- Deliver and present fit-and-product innovation research and recommendations to cross-functional partners, as needed
Who you are: - Backed by 3+ years of relevant professional experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Google Drive, and Adobe Suite applications for viewing tech drawings, and able to quickly adapt to proprietary product lifecycle management (PLM) systems
- A strong cross-functional collaborator and excellent communicator, both in writing and in person
- Unflappably professional and experienced in working with international vendors
- A kind, empathetic communicator (online, in person, via carrier pigeon!) with excellent listening skills
- At ease presenting your work and explaining your decisions
- Not on the Office of Inspector General's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE)
Extra credit: - A degree in industrial design, technical design, or a similar discipline
- Experience with AutoCAD software, 3D modeling (Solidworks), and 3D printing technology
- Experience with Oracle Fusion systems
- Direct experience with optical or jewelry technical design
- Fluency in using a caliper, lens clock, and tracer
