ASPCA is hiring a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) in Woodside, NY. This is a full-time position.

Job Title: Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT)

Primary Work Location: New York, NY (On-Site Animal Hospital)

Schedule: Full-Time | Wednesday – Saturday, 10: 00 AM – 8: 00 PM

Compensation Range: $34.60 – $37.00 per hour

Incentives: Signing bonus available; relocation bonus available for eligible distance moves; Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) qualifying employer

Position Overview

We are hiring for one of our clients, a premier non-profit animal hospital dedicated to delivering life-saving care and relieving suffering for animal victims of cruelty, neglect, and financial hardship.

We are seeking a passionate, level-headed Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) to join a fast-paced clinical team. Working alongside skilled veterinary professionals, you will provide high-quality, practical veterinary care and compassionate treatment to outpatients and hospitalized animals in alignment with Fear Free standards.

Key Responsibilities

Nursing Care & Client Services (40%)

  • Provide compassionate, high-quality patient care utilizing Fear Free guidelines.

  • Perform technical nursing procedures including venipuncture, IV catheter placement, intubation, anesthesia monitoring, diagnostic imaging, critical care nursing, pharmacology, and dentistry.

  • Execute low-stress handling and restraint techniques for various medical procedures.

  • Communicate treatment plans, medical updates, and discharge instructions to clients with empathy and clarity.

  • Monitor patients, document clinical changes, and report status updates to attending veterinarians.

  • Maintain safe physical handling of animals weighing up to 40 pounds.

Professionalism, Communication & Performance (40%)

  • Collaborate professionally across departments and support organizational protocols.

  • Work independently and as part of an integrated medical team under fast-paced conditions.

  • Provide feedback to management regarding operational needs, training, and workflow improvements.

  • Maintain high standards of veterinary care, work ethic, and professional conduct.

  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and continuous learning opportunities.

Housekeeping, Safety & Maintenance (20%)

  • Clean, disinfect, and maintain kennels, treatment areas, surgery suites, and exam rooms using appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

  • Adhere to all OSHA safety protocols, departmental SOPs, and hazard reporting guidelines.

  • Monitor inventory levels, restock supplies, and notify supervisors when items run low.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Credentials:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Technology from an accredited program.

  • Current Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) credential (issued or recognized by AAVSB).

  • Fear Free Shelter Certification required within 60 days of hire.

Experience & Skills:

  • Previous experience in veterinary hospital operations or shelter medicine.

  • Proficiency in veterinary management software (ImproMed experience preferred) and basic Microsoft Office tools.

  • Demonstrated expertise in low-stress, Fear Free animal handling and restraint.

  • Strong critical thinking, multi-tasking, and priority-setting skills.

  • Ability to stand for 10 or more hours and lift up to 40 pounds.

Compensation, Benefits & Perks

  • Target Hiring Range: $34.60 – $37.00 per hour (commensurate with qualifications and experience).
