The Team

Our National Tax Office (NTO) provides clients with access to domestic and global tax experts to advise clients on complex tax issues and deliver insights on evolving regulations and other tax developments. Our group of seasoned professionals are trained across all tax disciplines to advise clients on current and future needs. A& M Tax relies on the deep technical expertise its NTO professionals bring, to help our clients and professionals. Our NTO group also helps foresee potential future implications by closely monitoring the ever-changing tax law, regulations and emerging trends to alert clients and A& M professionals on changes in the industry to help navigate them seamlessly. Due to our increased growth across the tax practice, we are seeking a Director with expertise in Accounting Methods to join our NTO team.

How you will contribute
  • Provide advice on a diverse array of U.S. federal income tax issues related to accounting methods, periods, and credits, including implications from recent legislative changes such as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA)
  • Guide clients through accounting method challenges arising from transactions and reorganizations, including impacts from OBBBA, and securing IRS consent for method and period changes
  • Assist clients identify cash tax savings by evaluating favorable methods of accounting related to income and expense recognition, capitalization strategies, cost recovery processes (depreciation and amortization), and managing research and experimental expenditures
  • Assist the A& M tax practice in developing and maintaining client relationships and identifying opportunities for additional services, leveraging strong internal and external networks
  • Collaborate closely with A& M's National Tax Office, Global Transaction Tax practice, and Core Tax practice to address complex technical issues and offer informed, innovative solutions

Qualifications
  • Must hold an active CPA license (MST or M.Acc. preferred) or be admitted to a bar (LL.M. in Taxation preferred).
  • 7-10+ years of progressive transactional tax consulting experience at a law or CPA firm, Department of the Treasury, or IRS Chief Counsel.
  • Strong writing, analytical, research, excel/data, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, project management, and business development skills.
  • Sense of personal motivation and responsibility, with the ability to work constructively as a team member.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, time-sensitive environment.
  • Capability to manage, develop, and mentor staff in a collaborative team setting
  • An understanding of increasingly complex tax concepts and the ability to effectively apply tax knowledge to meet client's goals. Experience with tax-free reorganizations, consolidated groups, partnerships, and international corporate transactions is preferred.
  • A demonstrated track record of developing and maintaining existing internal and external client relationships, as well as building new relationships.
  • Must be willing to work in Washington, DC.

The salary range is $165, 000 - $200, 000 annually, dependent on several variables including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography. In addition, A& M offers a discretionary bonus program which is based on a number of factors, including individual and firm performance. Please ask your recruiter for details.
