About the Role

The WHS Manager – Hotels & Resorts is a trusted safety leader embedded in the day-to-day operations of our hotel and resort network. This role partners closely with the Hotel SLT, General Managers and operational leaders to ensure that Work Health & Safety (WHS) is proactively managed, visibly championed by leaders, and integrated into the operational rhythm of each property.

Going beyond compliance, the WHS Manager supports consistent safety leadership, drives shared accountability, and strengthens frontline safety behaviours across a geographically dispersed, multi-site hotel network. The role ensures WHS systems and practices are practical, scalable, and embedded into real-world decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

WHS Strategic Advice & Integration

  • Advise the Divisional SLT on emerging WHS risks, regulatory changes, and improvement opportunities.
  • Translate operational priorities into safety initiatives and risk mitigation actions.
  • Influence and contribute to divisional WHS goal setting, resourcing, and performance monitoring.

Operational WHS Support

  • Develop and tailor WHS practices to match site-specific operational risk profiles (e.g. food safety, manual handling, contractor safety, public area hazards).
  • Conduct site visits, risk assessments, inspections, and emergency preparedness drills.
  • Partner with hotel GMs and department leaders to embed safe work practices in day-to-day operations.
  • Ensure WHS is consistently integrated into hotel procedures, team meetings, and performance expectations.

Incident Management & Investigations

  • Lead or coach site managers through incident investigations, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Monitor trends, escalate systemic risks, and support learnings across sites.
  • Provide advice to SLT during critical incidents and contribute to incident response planning.

WHS Capability Building

  • Build leader and team capability to manage WHS as a core operational responsibility.
  • Deliver or coordinate WHS training aligned to operational roles.
  • Support WHS induction, refresher training, and safety communication.

Annual and Strategic Planning Alignment

  • Provide WHS expert advice relevant to hotel and resort operations to inform the division’s annual and three-year business plans.
  • Partner with operational leaders to ensure WHS risks, obligations, and opportunities are appropriately reflected in divisional planning and resourcing decisions.
  • Ensure divisional WHS practices meet regulatory requirements and are responsive to emerging risk conditions.
  • Support the development and implementation of WHS policies, tools, and reporting frameworks that align with operational priorities.

Enterprise Collaboration & WHS Community of Practice

  • Contribute divisional insights and operational expertise to enterprise-wide WHS initiatives led by the Group WHS function.
  • Actively participate in the WHS Community of Practice to share knowledge, align divisional practices, and support consistency across the business.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Risk, and People & Culture to ensure WHS strategies address psychosocial, regulatory, and reputational risks.
  • Represent the Hotels & Resorts division in cross-functional forums and working groups to ensure operational needs are reflected in enterprise WHS decisions.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong working knowledge of WHS legislation and regulatory obligations in Australia (including state/territory variations), New Zealand, and Singapore, including site-based licensing and audit regimes.
  • Skilled in designing and implementing critical risk control frameworks, aligned to standards such as working at heights, confined spaces, hot works, plant/equipment isolation (LOTO), and water safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply inherently safer design principles and error-proofing methods (e.g., colour coding, interlocks, fail-safe mechanisms) to prevent incidents and reduce reliance on administrative controls or PPE.
  • Proficient in using WHS management systems for incident reporting, hazard tracking, assurance activities, and compliance workflows (e.g., Donesafe or similar).
  • Experienced in leading incident investigations and root cause analysis, coaching site leaders through the process, and managing corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) and regulatory notifications.
  • Capable of delivering WHS training and leadership coaching tailored to diverse operational roles, ensuring practical and site-relevant application.
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills, with the ability to interpret safety performance trends, identify emerging risks, and communicate insights to senior operational and executive stakeholders.
