Hunter Valley Golf Club is seeking an experienced and driven Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to support the Golf Course Superintendent in the maintenance, presentation, and ongoing development of one of the region's premier golf and resort destinations.

This is an exciting leadership opportunity for a turf management professional looking to take the next step in their career. You will play a hands-on role in the day-to-day management of the golf course, supervise greenkeeping and gardening staff, and contribute to the planning and delivery of course improvement projects, agronomic programs, and capital works.

About the Role
Reporting to the Golf Course Superintendent, you will assist in leading all aspects of golf course and turf maintenance while ensuring the highest presentation standards across the golf course and surrounding resort grounds.
In the Superintendent's absence, you will coordinate maintenance operations and provide leadership to the Greenkeeping team to ensure the continued smooth operation of the facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the golf course and resort surrounds
  • Coordinate daily maintenance activities and supervise Greenkeeping staff
  • Maintain tees, fairways, roughs, greens, and all turf areas to a consistently high standard
  • Set up the golf course for daily play, including hole changes, tee marker placement, hazard marking, and course presentation
  • Assist with agronomic programs including aeration, coring, scarifying, top dressing, fertiliser applications, and turf renovation works
  • Manage irrigation programs and assist with the maintenance of commercial irrigation systems
  • Supervise chemical application programs and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and safety requirements
  • Monitor, identify, and report turf diseases, weeds, pests, and other course issues
  • Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and capital improvement planning
  • Operate and maintain a wide range of turf machinery and equipment
  • Contribute to the design, construction, and enhancement of course features and landscape projects
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with WHS policies and procedures
  • Build positive working relationships with team members, management, members, guests, and contractors

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Certificate, Diploma, or equivalent qualification in Turf Management, Irrigation, Horticulture, or a related field
  • Extensive experience in golf course, sports turf, or large-scale grounds maintenance
  • Demonstrated knowledge of turf management practices and commercial irrigation systems
  • Experience supervising teams within a turf or grounds maintenance environment
  • Strong organisational, planning, and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes to agreed timeframes
  • Knowledge of chemical handling, fertiliser programs, and integrated turf management practices
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • A commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
  • Current unrestricted driver's licence

Physical Requirements

This role is highly hands-on and requires the ability to:

  • Lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and materials
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Stand and walk for extended periods
  • Bend, kneel, climb, and perform physically demanding tasks
  • Operate a variety of machinery and equipment safely
  • Work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays as required
