Job Description
Santa Fe Indian School is hiring a HR Benefits Coordinator in Santa Fe, NM. This is a full-time position.
Works as part of the HR team to serve and support SFIS employees and strives to improve the overall employee experience at SFIS. The position focuses on all aspects of employee benefits coordination, management, implementation, billing, and other related processes. This position also provides day-to-day assistance performing functions of the HR Department. • Works proactively with insurance brokers to negotiate best option insurance packages and be the point of contact for carriers and insurance brokers.• Coordinates the implementation of various employee benefits programs such as group health, vision, dental, life, and disability insurances, as well as optional supplemental benefits (i.e., AFLAC, flexible spending account).• Coordinates employee wellness Initiatives to include lifestyle education, training, and activities/challenges.• Facilitates employee benefit orientation and assists staff with benefit self-enrollment system for new hires.• Assists employees with health, dental, life, and other related benefit claims.• Coordinates and manages student and staff accident claims to ensure claims are processed through completion.• Establishes, and continuously strives to improve, a program that highlights, appreciates, and recognizes employees of SFIS.• Maintains employee benefits filing systems and ensure benefits changes are entered accurately in payroll system for payroll deduction.• Verifies the calculation of the monthly premium statements for all group insurance policies and maintains statistical data relative to premiums, claims, and costs. • Regularly performs a comparation analysis of benefits with other schools and relative organizations.• Coordinates workers' compensation claims with carrier and billing facilities. Follows up on those claims.• Resolves administrative problems with the insurance broker and/or carrier representatives.• Responsible for the coordination and processing of random drug screening, as described in policy.• Administers COBRA.• Reviews and responds to unemployment claims with appropriate documentation.• Prepares and sets up meetings designed to help employees obtain information and understand company benefits and other related incentive programs.• Ensures distribution of required employee notices.• Provides monthly absentee review and reporting to school administration for follow-up. • Responsible for completing benefits reporting requirements.• Assists in generating purchase requisitions and ensures payment for HR related invoices and purchases. • Uses iVisions and other technology as applicable to complete various human resources tasks.• Assists in training new and returning staff on SFIS Human Resources Policies and Procedures.• Maintains and protects current and former employee personnel files in accordance with all applicable regulations and SFIS requirements. • Assists HR Director with staff request for information, and inquiries.• Attends training and obtains professional development for the purpose of keeping professional human resource knowledge current with changing applicable laws and regulations, as requested by the HR Director.• Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, Native communities, and outside agencies/organizations associated with SFIS.• Provides general office and clerical support, as well as maintenance of adequate supplies. • Ensures the integrity of the Human Resource Department by maintaining strict confidentiality regarding ALL personnel matters, records, and information. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES • Knowledge of organizational financial responsibility, and general cost effectiveness practices.• Keen eye for detail.• Must have an approachable and friendly, helpful, and outgoing demeanor. • Skills and ability in organization, time management, task prioritization, and record keeping.• Exemplary skills in written and oral language with the ability to communicate respectfully, clearly, and concisely in person, by telephone, and though written forms (i.e., paper, email, text, social media).• Skills demonstrating high level of integrity, commitment, and work ethic.• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, administrators, and community in a variety of roles and positions.• Ability to remain calm, flexible, and work effectively under pressure.• Ability to use computers, specialized software, and/or other electronic equipment to fulfill job functions. • Ability to use video recording applications to create HR training videos.• Proficient in MS Excel, able to apply formulas and data filters to create custom spreadsheets.• Proficient research and report writing skills. • Knowledge of, and experience with, applicable laws, regulations, and emerging practices pertaining to assigned responsibilities, including current issues and trends in education and human resource activities. • Knowledge of, and experience working with, Pueblos, Tribes, and Tribally controlled organizations.• Ability to make effective presentations, produce high quality reports, and draft policies and procedures.• Strong problem-solving skills.• Strong interpersonal skills.• Must have the ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries and complaints. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum QualificationsAssiocated degree in Human Resources, or related field, plus 1-2 years of HR, insurance administration or closely related area. Maintain confidential employee and medical information, strong written and verbal commuincation skills and the abilitiy to explain benefits information clearly to employees. Ability to make public presentations. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a business administration, human resource management, or other related field of study and three (3) years of benefit coordination experience. Experience working with Native American students and Native American or Tribal entities, preferred.
