Job Description

  • This position is for Stevens Undergraduate students currently enrolled. Must have at least 6 credits. Requirement: Candidate must have received a Federal Work Study on your Financial Aid Award Letter. Students can speak with Student Employment regarding further job questions.     Lab Assistant’s (LA) will conduct routine walkthroughs and tasks focused on maintaining the MakerCenter Lab Space(s). Tasks in repair and maintenance will be both reactive and proactive in nature involving equipment such as Automated Tool Cabinets (ATC), workbench power tools, hand tools, and occasionally other equipment such as a laser cutter. They will provide support for the lab spaces in order for the classes to function; the support is generally indirect and “behind-the-scenes”. Monitor proper use of tools and equipment, enforce safety rules.

    Major Areas Under Responsibility:
    Senior Design Lab Spaces

    Primary Work Objectives:

    Maintain a safe and functional workspace for Instructors and Students to use.

    Maintain a current state of the lab spaces through routine monitoring.

    Report and respond to all issues in a timely manner.


    Primary Work Responsibilities:
    Perform Routine Checklist Sweeps of the Lab Spaces
    Report any issues including broken equipment or ill-state conditions.
    Perform proactive preventative maintenance on equipment, and reactive repairs in a timely manner.
    Maintain the stock and inventory of lab supplies and ensure they are readily available based on the class demand.
    Seasonally prepare and breakdown Lab modules, ex. “Robot Kits”

    Required Skill Sets:
    Must be able to learn and exercise proficiency in:
    Repairing and maintaining of Power Tool Equipment: Bandsaws, Belt Sanders, Etc. Troubleshooting basic issues with machines and learning modules.
